In terms of RAGEs story, there is a lot of wasted potential in this otherwise brilliant shooter. The same could be said for the technical side of things, as RAGE undoubtedly looks good, but far from brilliant, "thanks" to its multiplatform-roots. Nevertheless: id's newest IP offers great atmosphere, spot-on gunplay, cool weapons, funny vehicle-combat and solid graphics; that leaves us hoping for Carmack's promised texture-patch.

A must have for both fans of FPS and sandbox games because it succeeds in both genres. An addictive and furiously violent videogame that will be breathtaking for every action fan.

It may lack the open-world versatility of S.T.A.L.K.E.R and Fallout 3, the weapon diversity and sheer madness of Borderlands, yet it manages to provide thrilling corridor action and surprisingly well crafted racing that reasserts id's lofty position in the studio charts.

Technically, Rage excels. The shooter mechanics are fantastic and the enemies vary in their tactics. However, the game starts to drag towards the (sudden) end, and the save system irritates.

Rage won't change the FPS landscape, but it's beautiful to see in motion and a bombastic delight to play. [Dec 2011, p.52]

I wasn't expecting miracles - the word "revolution" hasn't been associated with id Software for a long time. But still I was expecting an 8/10 game and even during E3 it seemed Rage would be just that. Unfortunatelly sometimes things simply don't work that way. Various flaws of the game - beginning with a fairly short single player, ending with technical issues - don't allow me to call it a well made product. I had fun, but that's not enough to praise a game that doesn't belong on a shelf labeled "hit".

The threadbare story is filled with pointless motivations, poorly realised characters and bad dialogue - so cross out 'wanting to know what happens at the end'. The way the game challenges you is by simply sending more of the same at you and hoping you run out of ammo. It doesn't have story, it doesn't have gameplay - so why would you keep playing?

The game is beautiful as far as the graphics go,so much attention to detail, sound is wonderful and music is grand, control is a breeze and never had a single crash, very similar to Borderlands so i'm very happy as that is a favourite of mine,RAGE just feels like an extension of Borderlands if truth be told, this is more than i could have hoped for and works perfectly on my GT 440,for me this works perfectly and couldn't ask for more and certainly looks better than the 360 and ps3 versions as the pc doesn't have the same restrictions,a class act and i'm sure will get even better with more content and indeed a patch or two but for me it works great so a patch isn't required,90 % from me and yes am an indie developer and been playing hundred's of games since 1978. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I ran the game on my old Geforce 8800 in hi-res/high detail. I had a Graphic bug on the first day which was most annoying if I got hit by a bullet. But on the second day a patch installed fixing my problem. Ran the game with no problem since. The engineering was cool, but the need for items like the RC car was short lived. Would have made a better game if they were still needed further in the game to get to other areas, Zelda is a good reference for this. Side Quests like Zelda would have also been good in this game. Although you could do some exploring, the game was very linear. I felt the ending was rushed and came to soon, I was hoping for a third Wasteland (The City) were I would run into the Authority more. Hopefully this will come with the Blue Station Expansion. The biggest issue I had with the game was after the credits you didnt get to escape back into the wasteland. I want to play the card game again with all the cards I collected. Plus I became very addicted to Tombstone. Expand

I played it with a ATI Card and this doesn't work really... Hard graphic issues, but now i have an 560TI from nvidia and that works great.

Strictly talking gameplay wise, this game is a turd.
This is a shooter, that has an "overworld" where you get quests and you have to drive to missions on a buggy. You know the mission area begins because you have to get off your buggy.
Picking up items is tedius, shooting people is tedious, making things adds an extra step incase you werent bored enough, the maps are rehashed very early on, and you play a minigame instead of dying...
The most fun I had was when I first killed an enemy because he jumped to the side and hopped on the cieling, and i realized there was not aquick meele button. The suck set in and now the only thing entertaining is crashing your buggy and flinging yourself into the mission.
The story is not engaging. There aren;t many "transition" animations where you get in a vehicle or grab a zipline, the screen just goes black sometimes, and that is really lazy. And for some reason when you shoot people in a town, blood gushes but nothing happens..
Lots of other problems but these jump out at me as actively deciding to not make a good game. I don't know why critics reviewed this so positively.

But the gameplay, storyline and multiplayer... so I bought in the end, 50% of the final product, considering these, the system of light and textures. The game is disposable.
For a long time, I was surprised with RAGE, his images show a game visually compatible with the feeling that quake caused on me, look something new. It was a long download on Steam, where I bought the game. I confess that the texture cause less problems using a nvidia gpu, but the lag occurs. Was just the beginning of the frustration.
After thousands of interviews, the good and bad sides of the new engine second John Carmack, the PC as the best visual and the product selling as the best game ever made by id! I finally bought RAGE. I bought 70% of advertising.. yes, advertising is the real seller always. Because the final product is just half of the real deal. In 10 hours, all cards, itens and quests done.. minigames and races, please...
The best looking game! is just a pile of low res with more closed doors, than options.
    Again, the game is disposable.
I feel cheated, it was my last effort with at id software.
