Nov 13, 2014Nothing is so simply put in The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, but to put it simply, this game is absolutely worth the $20 price tag. It’s not long (about four hours), nor is it particularly challenging, but through and through, this is a beautiful game of strange, twisted, and sometimes sick puzzles.
Oct 3, 2014A singular experience, at times strange, astonishing and even bewildering, but always captivating. The mystery will keep you going, but what the game does best is surprise. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter has a great story to tell, even if it's not the one you were expecting.
Oct 8, 2014Fans of puzzlers, horror and story driven games alike will find enjoyment from Ethan Carter as it manages to be compelling, challenging and terrifying, all at once.
Oct 2, 2014It keeps you on edge just enough to pique your curiosity for what the next mystery will bring, and marries that mystery with an eerily beautiful world worth being curious about.
Oct 22, 2014No matter from what perspective you look at it, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is an impressive title. The special storytelling, absurdly beautiful game world and the intimate atmosphere make this a game for everyone.
Oct 7, 2014As True Detective did months ago, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter shows its cards and lets the player decide which ones are important, asking them to be both the spectator as well as the engine that drives the game.
Oct 2, 2014For players who like story and experience to trump all else, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a low-key journey with some interesting ideas.

I MUST make one suggestion, turn the subtitles off. At least try it: They break it for me. The rest is spot on.
Its atmospheric, spooky, cool, interesting, visually stunning and after 2hrs solid play intriguing but too darn scary after the day I've had. It's not run around jump scary, imagine it's an entire world to match the feeling of playing either of the original two classic cakpants Thief levels back in the day.
It draws you in through sights and sounds. Within 30 minutes you'll have had a WTF??! moment. Anyone who's played it will know. It's fantastic storytelling.
I'm betting its 8 or 9 easily on an average after a few reviews. If not, my 15 spondoolies have paid for themselves already. Exceptional except.....

This game is one of very few what needs to be made as movieExcellent stuff, intensive story and beautiful graphics. Totally worth to buy. This game is one of very few what needs to be made as movie also. It really went into my feelings. Emotional **** Funny stuff, example "Gaylord" -poster somewhere middle of game. Listen carefully every video and it makes the game feel like a movie.
Only fault of this game was it's shortness, but that didnt bother me enough to change my score. 10/10.… Expand

This game tells a great story while also having a stunning graphics and beautiful music. This game also has some puzzle solving. Some are pretty, some are a bit difficult. Either way the puzzles add game play to a story driven game.
Overall is a game that I would recommend to all my friends, even the ones who are not so much gamers because I know they will enjoy the story.… Expand

Expand
Jul 14, 2021From the very first moment of the game it's impossible not to admire the stunning environment and mesmerizing spooky atmosphere. Red CreekFrom the very first moment of the game it's impossible not to admire the stunning environment and mesmerizing spooky atmosphere. Red Creek Valley is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in-game worlds. However, I think that's the first and last positive point of the game.
You're alone in a large map with lots of sideways and detours, not knowing what to do, where to head. Confusion in finding mission makes the game a perfect "walking simulator". (At least give a damn compass!) Sometimes finding what to do next was like finding a needle in a haystack. Thus I managed to finish the game with the help of walkthroughs on YouTube. (I'm in wonder how can one finish the game without getting help.)
The story was unique, but this doesn't necessarily mean that it was great. It was a fine emotional story and nothing more than that.
The game however reminds me of The Murdered Soul Suspect. Both has similar concept and great ideas but in the end, an average game.
I'm trying to find some positive things to say but I can't find much. Music was good.
In general I would recommend it for patient people who have free time.
