Wonderlands is upbeat and fun from start to finish, offering a rewarding adventure filled with goofy characters, imaginative bosses, and a great sense of ownership over your character through it all. Even with one of Borderlands' most loved characters leading the charge, this experience feels like the start of something new: a rare spinout from an existing series that deserves just as much of the spotlight. As someone who has played plenty of Dungeons & Dragons, I adored how often Wonderlands reminded me of rolling a 20-sided die with friends. It’s a love letter to on-the-spot creativity and friends enjoying each other’s company in a make-believe world.
Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is basically everything that awaits us from the game. Fun, over the top and crazy. What struck us, however, is that it proves to be even a little bit more. Especially where it deviates the path, inserting the overworld with all its facets and adding the double-class on a single character, it almost tries to overtake Borderlands 3. Success and the passage of time will tell us if it was true. What is certain is that the potential and the fun are always there.
Published as a separate game, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands has managed to bring a different flavor to the Borderlands series, but it is a game with a lot of untapped potential.
For all Tina's spirited efforts as dungeon master, every aspect of the Borderlands experience is showing its age. The next instalment needs more than dismal puns and wonky guns if it's to avoid being the butt of the joke. [Issue#371, p.112]
This is just a review to counter the unneccesary review bombing and overly negative reviews. Is the new DLC bad? Yes, but it's one of four DLC, usually won't be bought on it's own and shouldn't be a reason to write off the game immediately. I've bought the game today, after the bigger patch and can't complain about bugs (except the vending machine scrolling breaking). So far it's very fun, a refreshing upgrade and good time waste.
Short review: The world of Tiny Tina's Wonderland is unique and has a lot of potential. The game has a child-like quality to it, in an uncommonly good way. It's colourful, it emphasises imagination, and Tina herself acts like a child. I like the artstyle, and I appreciate the variety of weapons and spells there are. There is also something satisfying about not just discovering physical locations but how the game works, what spells do, etc. On the other hand, I do believe that there there is too much loot thrown at you. I also think that enemy ai is not great - enemies run haphazardly. I also would have liked a dash. Finally, the writing and the characters were amusing to me, but nothing is done with the characters, its just a classic bad guy is bad because he is bad and we must defeat him story. 73/100.
In the end, the balance was positive for me because, even though I'm a big fan of the Borderlands franchise and find the main series better in some aspects than this spin-off, I loved playing something with similar mechanics and gameplay. It was like driving someone else's car, which has its own quirks, differences, and even a color I might not like, but in the end, it gets the job done, which is to take me somewhere. And I enjoyed this adventure.
Loot luck system is stupid. You have to find a lot of dice JUST TO BE LUCKY ENOUGH to find legendary weapons OFTEN. This artificial extension gameplay is ANNOYING. First-person-shooter action and story are OK, though.
