The authenticity and the survival, central to the experience, accentuate the urgency of the situations and this oppressive feeling of being the prey, and no longer the hunter, on Auroa.

Unlike its predecessor, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint risks alienating the very community it was built for due to its over-reliance on RPG-esque looting and leveling mechanics. However, shooter fans who can make peace with the game’s loot-driven economy and pervasive microtransactions will find a lot to enjoy in the moment-to-moment gameplay. Breakpoint isn’t quite the tactical shooter sequel fans asked for, but there’s no denying the amount of long-term value it offers to shooter fans of all stripes.

While we wait for the hopeful announcement of a new Splinter Cell game in the future, Tom Clancy’s fans will be happy to know that Breakpoint is actually fun, now. The new Ghost Mode solved many of the issues that plagued the original version, and while it isn’t fully healed from its painful stint as a non-Ghost Recon game, the latest entry in the franchise is trying its best to course-correct. If you are one of the many people who were put off by it at launch, I would recommend you try and give it a try now – just like the eponymous Group for Specialised Tactics, Ubisoft might yet turn this near-miss of the series’ breakpoint into a franchise victory.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint looks like a different game on PC thanks to higher resolution, nicer visual effects and the chance to get a 60 fps gameplay that dramatically improves the overall experience.

Despite the occasionally lonely world and lacking interactivity, the rewarding and creative ways to complete missions make this FPS title a blast to play.
  6. Oct 8, 2019
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint will get some extra content, but it's clear that the focus of the game is now the multiplayer part, with the single-player working only as an afterthought. I can only hope that Breakpoint is only a step towards a more polished experience.
  7. Oct 11, 2019
Ghost Recon Breakpoint is a decent open world, full of the bad ghosts of the Ghost Recon past.
  8. Oct 21, 2019
A fun if wildly unpolished title that deviates from the series established identity. Some solid stealth mechanics and great feeling gunplay offset the often broken feeling the rest of the game suffers from.

Despite everything mentioned in this review, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is still a fun game when everything is working well. Thanks to the very long-term support that Ubisoft provides for its games, there's little doubt that the crashes and other oddities will be patched over time. The gameplay remains a highlight of the series, even with all of the directional changes being made. With that said, the mashup of these different ideas has resulted in a game that has become rather generic instead of something special and different. There's a good chance that the game will improve in the next few months or a year, and at that point, players can easily jump into the game and enjoy the hell out of it. At launch, however, Breakpoint makes sense if you want to get into a looter shooter that isn't full of fantastical weaponry or you aren't playing The Division 2 anymore.
  10. Oct 8, 2019
Ghost Recon Breakpoint is an acceptable attempt at the MMO lite genre with refined gameplay and co-op mechanics, but fails to deliver a steady pulse of interesting objectives and dungeons to test our skills. Players who want an interesting campaign and enjoyable side quests will probably feel disappointed by the grindy, unexciting content out there.
  11. Oct 7, 2019
I experience these moments of happiness much less often than its predecessor. For the most part of the campaign, I'm disappointed to be annoyed by all the inconsistencies.
  12. Oct 3, 2019
You just can't be lenient with Ghost Recon Breakpoint - the feeling of failure is too strong on all levels. The "Realistic Division" formula is too imperfect, making it a bitter pill to swallow for fans of tactical shooters, and bland for fans of loot-shooters. Each of the ideas and mechanics cannot even deliver half of what is expected from a game of this kind the scenario falls flat, the staging is a disaster, and the progression is limited.
  13. Oct 11, 2019
While the roaming through the open world can be fun at times (especially if you are touring with a co-op-team), this amalgam of various elements from other Ubisoft franchises lacks character.
  14. Oct 23, 2019
This game is the definitive proof that you won’t get a tasty meal just by mixing random ingredients that you like. The immersion sometimes feels nice (when you turn off the HUD), but there are performance problems galore and a very weak AI ready to ruin your day.
  15. Oct 17, 2019
Ubisoft failed to deliver a fresh Ghost Recon title and they were focused on how to import the open world of Wildlands into a virtual store. During the making process, they forgot that Ghost Recon series were always about realistic tactical shooting and not about exploring and looting like a maniac.
  16. Oct 10, 2019
Breakpoint offers initial fun following Ubisoft's open-world structure as gospel, but a lack of variety and conflicting pieces leave it devoid of personality.
  17. Oct 9, 2019
Ghost Recon Breakpoint suffers from the lack of decisiveness. It does not know whether it is a single player game or a loot-shooter like The Division 2 and thus, fails to satisfy either of the two areas. Additionally, a poor enemy AI and a story oozing with clichés add to the shooter distress.
  18. Oct 5, 2019
Ghost Recon: Breakpoint has a solid foundation, but is let down by poor design choices and braindead easy gameplay.
  19. Oct 3, 2019
Ubisoft clearly wanted to make Breakpoint a mix between The Division and Destiny, but it doesn't really work if you look at the work as a whole. Dusty community hub breaking immersion, idiot AI, bugs of all kinds despite the beta, microtransaction system a little bit abusive, terrible driving vehicles system, tactics non-existent in solo.... However, the game also has some good aspects, especially with its brilliant main actor, its fun multiplayer Ghost War mode and many cooperative possibilities due to the realistic and complete equipment. Definitely Ghost Recon Breakpoint is not a bad game, but it is not what you would call a good game either.
  20. Oct 15, 2019
Compared to its predecessor, Ghost Recon Breakpoint takes one step forward then tumbles down a hill. A completely out of place loot grind, pointless survival elements, dim-witted AI and repetitive missions are the main reasons you should avoid this sequel, even though the story is improved and co-op stealth gameplay remains at times enjoyable.
  21. There is great potential in Ghost Recon Breakpoint. But this potential is not well used. Also buggy gameplay and weak storytelling is not fun.
  22. Oct 23, 2019
Compared to its predecessor, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint offers mainly more possibilities for creating fun and exciting momens with friends. The flaws and bugs are offset by Ubisoft’s promise to continuously deliver new content for Breakpoint over the next few years. The French company has demonstrated with Rainbow Six Siege and Ghost Recon: Wildlands that they are committed to supporting their games for a long time, so there is a good chance that Breakpoint can play a lot better on your own in a year.
  23. Oct 10, 2019
Ghost Recon Breakpoint had every opportunity to improve on Wildlands, but instead of evolving, tore everything good about that game to pieces and replaced it with too few wins.
  24. Oct 8, 2019
A muddled game that trips over itself by implementing mechanics from various genres, but never fully expands on their potential.
  25. Oct 6, 2019
Breakpoint is a very pretty game, to be fair, but there's not much going on under the surface besides the now-usual Ubisoft sandbox with a coat of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon painted on it.

The super-soldier fantasy's lost beneath generic mechanisms for grinding. [Issue#139, p.108]
  27. Oct 11, 2019
It would make sense if the addition of loot were in service of guiding people to spend real money on better guns, but even then the stats are so meaningless it would take a lot of convincing. There's some surprising fun to be had stealthily infiltrating enemy compounds and playing with friends, but Breakpoint is still a generic and distinctly sub-par game. It's essentially every Ubisoft open-world game rolled into one, failing to excel in any one area or establish its own identity. Breakpoint is a messy, confused game and a ghost of the series' former self.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint is a gaming experience at its most mediocre, packed with all the worst practices that the videogame industry can offer and completely decimated by an embarrassing level of polish. This looter shooter seems to want to squander its large budget, failing to develop its premise in a way that is at least remotely meaningful.
  30. Oct 7, 2019
Poorly stapled-on mechanics and a general lack of polish make Breakpoint's open-world tactics simply not worth the time.

It’s a damn shame that Breakpoint seems religiously devoted to slapping together mismatched bit of modern game design into a mediocre patchwork. For all the clumsiness, there’s something here but it’s been watered down.
  2. Oct 2, 2019
For now, as I said, I’m (mostly) enjoying Ghost Recon Breakpoint. It’s mindless, and I’ve definitely listened to a handful of podcasts already while tooling around Auroa. But I’m at least pausing them whenever major story beats occur, because Bernthal really is that damn good. He’s carrying this entire game on his back, as far as I’m concerned. Whether I finish it? And whether we ever write a proper review? That remains to be seen. Destiny 2’s new Shadowkeep expansion released today, so it’s a big week for thousand-hour shooters—and quite frankly, I’d rather play Destiny.
  3. In 2019, a massive and meticulously-crafted open world just doesn’t cut it. Any life breathed into Ghost Recon Breakpoint will have to be pumped into it by you and your friends, and you’d do better to save your breath for other games.
  4. Oct 5, 2019
A dynamic stealth-action approach to Ubisoft's template, with frustratingly ambivalent politics.
