Perhaps the best way to describe Borderlands 3 is to say it is exactly the game you would expect it to be. There are plenty of familiar faces, and it has the same sort of ambiance and atmosphere. People will still keep going into quest after quest for the same reasons (loot). While it might be difficult to accept the new villains after a great one like Handsome Jack, the twins are fine. Most importantly, the new Vault Hunters work well and the game is as fun to play alone as it is with friends. It looks, works, and plays well, and fans of the series will be more than happy to join the Crimson Raiders.

Borderlands 3 is more of the same in the best possible way, while some small tweaks to gunplay and exploration - being able to fight your way through multiple planets is invigorating - are welcome additions to the franchise.

Borderlands 3 comes with great growth in gameplay, but a safe story that had the opportunity for so much more.

Borderlands 3 may be a brain-dead story of already dead on arrival memes and a cast that is largely forgettable (Save for Tannis, I still love you for being my socially inept spirit animal), but it’s easily the most satisfying power fantasy of the year thanks to its amazingly tuned gunplay and a sophisticated flow of action that picks up the juvenile slack.

Borderlands 3 is, quite simply, more Borderlands. That means excessive charming humor, great variety in environments and sidequests and a lot of fun coop action spread throughout. The things that hold the game back are mostly minor annoyances – like the overabundance of everlasting boss fights and the gruesomely tiresome inventory management – but all in all this is a package that simply works.

Borderlands 3 is a by-the-book sequel that takes no risks. Veteran Borderlands players will embrace it, but others will find that it has not evolved enough.

The game is boorish, infantile, and violent, and, in refusing to take any sort of consistent stand, is wildly off the mark.

I don't mean review-bombers or Epic boycotters, there's no reasoning with them. I mainly mean the people who say the PS4 version is a busted mess. I can personally argue against that. I have a base PS4, and it's pretty dusty. The game runs perfectly on my system. I don't know what the problems could be (it could be that I got a physical copy in a digital age, but I have no concrete reason.) As for the game itself? Everything I want from a sequel: keep what was good, fix what wasn't, and expand on it all. A deeper lore, major quality of life improvements, and the same Borderlands charm you loved from the past games. The game isn't perfect, I did have a glitch moment that launched me into the sky and out of the map, resulting in a swift death. There's also a small bit of lag in the menus, presumably from loading the character model, but I expect these will be patched out relatively soon. Other than that, I have had no problems and absolutely no regrets about getting this game. It only gets a 10 instead of a 9 to help bump it up from the bombers and boycotters. Expand

Borderlands 3 is like having class A drugs consumed through your eyeballs!

    Gameplay:

it's fast pace, hectic, all balls to the walls gunplay has you fully immersed into its insane, sprawling open world from start to finish. It's worth noting that I personally found the main story missions on the lengthy side which isn't a negative because I certainly got my 'bang-for-buck' but I'd prefer some of the missions to be broken down into sections or parts just so I don't have to keep ending my sessions mid-mission (< - this is a small gripe but something I needed to mention).

There are plenty of entertaining side missions to keep you laughing your head off whilst also feeling rewarded for your efforts, I think it's here where the game shines most, as the side missions make you feel integral to the objectives! - which leads me onto my next point...

Traversing the game was great when you had a vehicle & driving around is allot of fun especially when you start customising to your preference! & theirs always a 'Catch-a-ride' within walking distance should you need one.. although I'd love an option to have vehicles spawn to your location & more variety such as motorcycles & air vehicles!

    Story:

The story of Borderlands 3 is packed with fun and interesting characters which adds to the bonkers nature of the rich, detailed world you're playing in. Borderlands 3 had me laughing from beginning to end & is jam packed full of easter eggs & pop culture references! I think the overall point-by-point story was fun & written well enough, there were definitely a few forced character progressions that seemed to jump from zero to hero pretty much just like that! My issue is that you, the player seem to have no real impact on the story, the game uses pre-rendered cutscenes for some of it's main missions and they're really well written & animated cutscenes.. just.. you're never in them, things happen in these cutscenes that leave you scratching your head thinking "Why isn't my character doing something about this?" and as soon as you notice this, it sticks out like a sore thumb and makes you feel like you're on a rollercoaster ride as a bystander of the story rather than you having any impact in narrative. This for me was the biggest letdown & this is what overall has impacted my final score the most, however I'm sure many have & will look past this & you should because aide from this borderlands 3 is an excellent game!

    Graphics:

So on the technical side I want to say that this game is beautiful! the Borderlands franchise has always had a fresh, unique aesthetic which makes it stand out from the rest! I was playing this on a PS4 Pro & noticed that textures would take some time to fully load this was not too much of a deal beaker for me, however it did feel a little sloppy, this was especially noticeable after fast traveling o a location, where my map and quests would also take extra time to load & other times this was just random.

The word takes place on various planets & each planet is broken up into sections, this means that if you're constantly moving from place to place then you're hit with a loading screen.. I'm sure this is all down to technical limitation of current general hardware & something we can wave goodbye to when the next generation hits this holiday season! - but alas, I still had to mention it & it does pull you out of the experience somewhat!

    Moving Forward:
    Borderlands 4 needs to:

    1) Incorporate the player(s) into the main story & make you feel integral to the story, whilst also breaking main missions down into more bitesize pieces where appropriate!

    2) Transitioning from one map to another needs to be simultaneous, with no loading barriers.

    Verdict:

Borderlands 3 is allot of fun and it's easy to just focus on all the niggles and nit picks but when you brush that aside, you have a fun, bonkers & well made game to get lost in & just have fun!

Those issues will be fixed, but that doesn't solve another massive problem: the forced horizontal split screen. Why tf would they make the decision to get rid of vertical split screen when anyone playing this game is going to have an HD rectangular TV and not an old POS box? And Gearbox continues to say they won't add it despite so many people b*tching about it..? Listen to your fans, FFS. Or, you know, don't - you've already got their money, so who cares, right? Expand

The developers used a comic book art style for the visuals. This comic book graphics style is used as an excuse for developers to be cheap and lazy to develop environments and character models with detail. The story is trash and cringeworthy. The voice acting is awful. The gameplay is so boring and repetitive.

The multiplayer has garbage matchmaking. The loading times are so ridiculous. The controls are so clunky. Usually first person shooters have smooth controls, and the fact that these developers couldn't make it smooth like other FPS games is embarrassing. The game tries too hard to be funny, it's cringeworthy. I don't recommend this terrible game at all.
