It is mechanics that glue Black Ops 4 together, then, rather than any particular theme, which helps each component drill down into what its good at. The competitive multiplayer can afford to be break-neck at all times, because you can happily nick off and play the more languid, tense and tactical Blackout.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is a pleasant surprise. While it’s lacking in any major offering for those wanting a campaign to play through, everything else is refined and iterated on in meaningful ways. Blackout is a blast, traditional multiplayer is as good as it’s been in years, and Zombies is insanity in all the right ways. Minor concerns aside, this is the best Call of Duty package I’ve played in a long, long time, and think the trade off of a campaign for Blackout — something I was more than surprised by — has been well worth it.

If you’re a fan of Call of Duty multiplayer offerings - boy howdy do Treyarch have an instalment for you. But, if you’re in it for the single player, you’re going to be severely disappointed – though hopefully that’s not a surprise, considering we’ve known there would be no campaign for five months. The combination of Multiplayer, Zombies and the brilliant new Battle Royale mode Blackout, offer a multiplayer feast. A smorgasbord of experiences which makes it feel like a package which will remain interesting, fun and exciting far beyond the release of the next annual COD instalment.

My experience with Call of Duty Black Ops 4 has been extremely positive, and I’m having a blast with the game. Don’t let the fact that there’s no campaign fool you into thinking that this year’s offering is light, there is a ton of content that will take even harcore players time to tap into. While lacking some of the expected Call of Duty polish, Blackout is by far the centerpiece of the game, and will likely stand as an exemplar in the Battle Royale genre.

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 is the new starting point for the series. Apart from some graphical glitches and other minor stuff, Treyarch has created a game listening the feedback of its own community with three words in mind: esport, cooperative and young.

Choosing which mode to play first every time I launch the game is a struggle, with each being unique and impressive in their own way. Black Ops 4’s individual components may not be groundbreaking, but as a package, it’s one of the most refined Call Of Duty games.

With no campaign to test your trigger finger, the trio of a safe (albeit polished) battle royale, waning multiplayer, and rotting Zombies make BLOPS4 feel like a relic next to a post-Forsaken Destiny 2. [Issue#156, p.94]

I didn’t think they were able to pull it off but black ops 4 proves that cod can still provide the action and gritty war game that fans want. Blackout is on a whole new level and great addition to the game multiplayer comes back and is still great, and the zombies is fun and challenging like we’ve never seen before. I can’t say this is the best cod game to come out recently but that doesn’t mean anything to the fact that it is great!! Expand

Absolute crap! I traded it in for a partial refund, 3 weeks after purchase.

I had been saying for months that I won't buy the new COD and waste my money, because I knew what it will be like... but I went ahead and brought it still anyway. And it confirmed my worst fears. It is awful. Like genuinely awful.

I played about 2 hours of it and had to switch it off and put AC: Odyssey back on, BO4 was that bad. I then didn't play it again for about 2 weeks, and when I did finally play it again, I couldn't bare more than a couple of hours. I just get sick of it, and hate practically every aspect of what it has evolved into. It's like all the previous bad COD's rolled into one, except they've tried to copy fortnight into it.

The graphics, the combat, the playing styles and gameplay, the glitches, the lack of a campaign etc. They have even ruined Zombies, which used to be COD's only saving grace, up until the past couple, which have been getting progressively worse. Zombies is now ridiculous, with too many far fetched spells and complex procedures that make it too overcomplicated to be worthwhile. It just feels like a big mess.

Save your money. Unless you are a massive fortnight fan, I suppose.

Probably the worst in COD series. Really disappointed as an old COD fan.

Really low-quality game. They could literally release it as a DLC for BO3.
It has nothing to offer to gamers. Perhaps their target was to build something with a high margin and low budget.
So sad to see they are destroying the franchise. So sad to see how many well-known reviewers are giving it a good score despite the fact that they haven't done anything. that just ruins the gaming industry in long run folks.
Really hope to see good quality games breaking records to set an example to other game builders to not forget about quality.

Pick up fortnite, for the cost of an xbox one or ps4 monthly subscription, usually around 10 bucks. Why I just spent $60 on a game that is multiplayer only is beyond me. I will be returning this hot garbage, cash grab, today not even 12 hours after my purchase, and NEVER purchase a game from the call of duty series ever again or Activision for that matter either. This will only stop when we stop buying their garbage. $60 dollars for battle royale,!!!!! Sure its polished, but so are my shoes..... If that is their defense for ripping us off and your buying it, you are the problem..and yes I realize I purchased it and am part of the problem, this is the LAST time I fall for these "polished" excuses for why a game does not have a single player component. Where is the story? The lore? What happened to story telling? Ehhh Im wasting my breath.... Expand
