I don’t want to use the word masterpiece lightly, but what else do you call the combination of gleefully chaotic gameplay with earnest storytelling in a setting as refreshingly unique as Bioshock? What else do you call a combat system that goes so far beyond the simple act of shooting a gun without drilling down into a set of intricate menus and complicated controls? What else do you call darkly malevolent horror that doesn’t feel like it was cribbed from someplace else? What else do you call the crowning achievement of a studio with a unique voice, an uneven track record, and 25 years of experience? If there’s a better word to describe what Remedy has achieved with Control, I can’t think of it.

Control is a treasure trove of storytelling that is supported by great dialogue, intriguing characters, and stellar voice acting. When paired with its badass combat, it proves to be the complete package.

Despite its technical issues, Control is an impressive adventure that marks the return of one of the most beloved Studios. Great game.

It's not often that a game invades my thoughts the way Control has. I'm at the point where I want to consume every last thing it has to offer. And if I'm honest, it also makes me want to go back and replay Remedy's past games, too. Sure, it's a faulty metroidvania in some respects, but there are so many exceptional qualities afoot that Control handily deflects any momentary ire. I can't wait to take part in discussions about the game, to see what others have figured out, and to better understand where it all fits into Jesse's story.

The writing, direction, and performances are consistently brilliant. This is Remedy at the peak of its game. Control feels like a company rediscovering itself, waking from a long slumber. Remedy’s legs work as intended once more, the vestiges of sleep paralysis a distant memory.

Control is a very enjoyable game but not without flaws. The technical issues are a shame but the combat and exploration are certainly entertaining enough to keep you playing through to its conclusion.

Thanks to poor “bigger is better” design choices, technical gaffes, obtuse exploration, a bromidic narrative, and zero atmosphere, Control is soul-crushingly disappointing, and a mere shadow of the studio's far superior Alan Wake.

It's a work of art with incredible graphics, dramatically enhanced when played on PC with ray tracing.

The gameplay itself is fun and varied with a multitude of powers and weapon types at your disposal and the progression is fantastic really making you feel yourself becoming more and more powerful as you progress through the game.

The world building is great with some really interesting lore and characters. The lore is delivered in an entertaining way through notes, memos but mostly through video logs left by a charismatic scientist. Oh and the soundtrack is pretty great too.

The game is pretty tough, so if you aren't very good at third person shooters you might struggle later on in the game when you hit a couple of major difficulty spikes. However, the challenge is worth fighting through as it's very rewarding when you finally beat that pesky boss you've been stuck on by learning it's patterns and figuring out different ways to counter it's attacks.

I highly recommend this game to anyone that is looking for a challenging, immersive, beautiful and well designed video game with a compelling story.

The setting is pretty unique and it changes in interesting ways. There are some cool setpieces built in as well which will change your location.
The gunplay is fun too but the powers are the area in which this game stands out. The lack of a cover system is probably the biggest departure from past remedy titles.
The story feels like a David Lynch show. It's eery and entertaining but i'm not far enough in to say whether or not it has a great plot.
I wouldn't listen to the babies downvoting this game. I assume most of them are doing it because the game is a timed exclusive on the epic store. A lot of games seem to get downvoted for that reason these days unfortunately.
I'd recommend checking out some reviews and if you like what you see then you'll probably enjoy control :).

Great showcase for ray tracing and the mood/atmosphere is top-notch, with an amazing set piece late game that left me smiling ear-to-ear through the whole thing. Gameplay is solid and satisfying, with some wonderful Metroidvania-esque exploration and only a few frustrations/difficulty spikes throughout the game. The story is satisfying though not spoon fed and leaves things open for some (what I hope to be) very satisfying DLC. Can't wait for the next bit of this game to hit! Remedy's best game yet (and the ending showed they clearly learned from the frustrations players felt from Quantum Break's final moments). Expand

    Control
    A weirdly satisfying journey
Control is a 12 hour long 3rd person sci-fi shooter set in a bit of an open world... or I should say building… more specifically the FBC’s paranormal headquarters...it all connects in an addictive metroidvania style… of more doors and areas becoming accessible as you complete story and optional missions. Here you play as Jesse Faden, who sets out to find out what happened to her brother in this facility... and would you know... you have some super natural gifts of your own…
The gameplay loop is the same from start to finish, you’re given a task... and area in the building to explore, and along your way you’ll sometimes feel an urge to venture of and explore, which can lead to you finding materials, or even optional missions that will help you become more powerful, give you more upgrade points, or even additional abilities, but you’ll do just fine sticking to the main story as well, increasingly making the gameplay here more addictive and crazy, throwing items, dashing, levitating, just to name a few.. Taking on enemies that can do almost the same... you’ll have to clear these enemies most of the time to unlock spawn points, which is also where you spend the enemy dropped currency and materials on upgrading your character, becoming more powerful… the combat though Is my biggest gripe with control… This game had the potential of being a really amazing game, in fact its won multiple game of the year titles for 2019, but the little issues with combat and performance is what sours control most for me… For starters... performance wise, the game stutters like crazy any time you pause and unpause the game.. and secondly in a Game so crazy and hectic at all times, it’s really hard to have a sense of enemy direction, a lot of the time... especially towards the end with more powerful enemies, you’ll just be hit and dead with no warning, you’ll get smacked with heat seeking missiles, shot in the back.. And you have no opportunity to fairly dodge or counter attack, which bring me to my next announce... dodging being tied to your super natural energy… this just becomes annoying… due to the nature of the game, dodging is a mechanic I feel should be a given to the player.. Not a drainer... you’ll be in fights, again unfairly getting smacked with these heat seeking missiles out of nowhere,, that you’ll need to quickly dash to health enemies drop all the way across the room, but good luck if you’ve been range attacking with your toss power, and you most likely will thanks to again the dash ability draining your energy. It makes you not want to use it, and when you need to use it, again it’s because of need to quickly move in the area because of a grenade or to grab health, but once again the vicious circle smacks you of you can’t because you’ve been range attacking with your throw ability, you see? This is an endless circle of one mechanic decision breaking all of the other mechanics, not making the game as fun as it could be, or bringing your gameplay vision to life... this game wants you moving around, throwing, dashing, shooting, hitting enemies with a nice forearm strike… but this one small decision forces ranged combat, and the games vision again just crumbles in front of you… that’s not to say control isn’t still fun, it’s a blast, it’s one more try addictive and challenging… despite its flaws I loved Control from start to finish… but control 2… I’m just saying... Focus on the balance of the crazy fun mechanics, give more opportunity to dodge seemingly unfair and over powered attacks and enemies… and this series has potential to be masterpiece level... where it stands now... Control is still a great game definitely worth your time...
    I give Control
    an 8/10

It’s very short, (about 10hrs) and the plot is not great. The voice acting is pretty average too. The atmosphere and setting is wonderful but as for actual gameplay and longevity, it’s highly disappointing. I wish I had waited to play it when it becomes 30€ as that’s the price point it should have been released at. I played Nier Automata the week before and that’s a masterpiece worth playing unlike this game from the ps1 era. David Lynch would cringe if he played this game. That’s how shoddy the callbacks and poor writing is. Alan Wake was a wonderful game. This is not. Expand
