The turn-based stealth gameplay is empowering, but fraught and fleeting each time you dive deeper into one of the world's least architecturally sensible corporate buildings, rooms budding off rooms, some empty, some dangerous, all necessary.
The developers of Mark of the Ninja have done it again with Invisible Inc. For less than 20 bucks you can throw yourself into one of the best infiltration game there is. A true contender to the hall of fame.
First things first: This game makes you feel like James Bond.
Although simpler than it's stealth counterparts such as the Hitman games, Invisible Inc manages to perfectly capture the feeling of breaking into a top secret base, stealing the secret documents, and then tripping every single alarm in the building and somehow making it out alive while being perused by hoards of very angry armed men and screaming at the top of your lungs.
Buy it. It's only twenty bucks, and it wont take long to finish.
Invisible Inc is an intense turn based strategy game about infiltrating corporations and staying alive. You start off with two agents (you can get more as the game progresses) who have limited resources and, quite frankly, are pretty weak. As you infiltrate facilities, you can buy new gear, augments (which are basically power ups) and programs for your AI, Incognita. For a turn based strategy, it is rather fast paced. The alarm level escalates slowly even if you aren’t spotted in your turn which adds an extra layer of pressure to the game play.
PROS:
The graphics are great. They are cartoony, but the style works perfectly with the darker, ominous, cyberpunk look of the surroundings.
It is challenging, even on the beginner difficulty. This is a pro because it is a lot more rewarding when you complete a mission that you have previously failed.
The controls are easy. It takes a while to adjust to the gameplay, but the controls are very easy to pick up and use.
There is a wide variety of gear. It is not limited to guns and tasers, there is a variety of other gadgets like adrenalin shots, distraction devices and even an EMP.
The gameplay outside the mission is engaging. You have to choose targets around the world, buy/sell items from your contact and manage your agents.
The voice actors are great. There is no shortage of dialogue in this game and it adds a lot the ste personality of some simple animations (my personal favorite is Monst3r)
As you get stronger/faster/more efficient, the guards will to. You will encounter guards with armor and augments of their own. There are even drones that you can hack.
The game is very entertaining/addicting. It’s worth the money, you will come back to the game time and time again.
CONS:
The gameplay is relatively short. There is plenty to do in the game, but once you complete beginner difficulty, the missions in experienced mode are the same except for the added difficulty. If you buy it with Contingency Plan, you won’t have this problem.
Though the worlds are randomly generated, there isn’t a huge variety of how your surroundings look. There are four very subtle changes (they vary depending what corporation you’re infiltrating) but otherwise, the setting is the same.
Fundamentally, the game is phenomenal. I would highly recommend it. Put it on your wishlist and get it when it goes on sale. It’s thoroughly entertaining and worth every penny.
It's complex and basically a game for people with an insane love for tactics. Once you survive despite all obstacles you'll feel like the smartest tactician of them all.
Invisible Inc. is a turn based procedurally generated stealth game, with an adult cartoon graphic and a nice but barely hinted story. Fortunately, it is a successful experiment.
There is just one notable flaw in Invisible, Inc., but it is so huge that it may overweigh all its merits — the campaign is incredibly short. There is also an ‘endless’ mode, but it is rather pointless. I’m sure that someone will get the kick of exploring randomly generated maps, but I feel that Klei could have done so much more with this awesome gameplay concept.
Invisible Inc. is a game with a lot of hidden depth that is waiting to be explored and exploited; and while the story is severely lacking it’s still worth the $20 to checkout and run through a few times.
Extra solid turn based strategy, unique art style, procedurally generated levels (for real, far better than XCOM:EU) and if you like challenge I assure you that you can enjoy yourself since there are a lot of different options to make the game insanely hard.
I fell in love with this title because of the post-apocalyptic sci-fi theme (some kind of cyberpunk I crave for) and because of the first mission which was damn hard (played only in expert mode because I'm a masochist).
Unfortunately, I must go against the masses and say I ended up uninstalling Invisible Inc a week after I bought it. This choice largely came down to personal taste but, then again, that is how we grade most games anyway. Simply put, I found the artwork and atmosphere to be unbearably childish and naive. It's not that I dislike cartoonish style as such. But Invisible Inc was just too "Disney" for me. Together with a lack **** storyline noted by many other reviewers, the game just did not have the backbone to make it worth my time (making it different from something like Militia which never tries to be anything more than what it is). The strategic mechanics, while fun for the first few missions, failed to make up for complete lack of immersion in the game world. For those who remember the oldies, a similar criticism on style could be leveled against the change that took place between X-Com Terror From the Deep and Apocalypse. Yet the incredibly immersive mechanics of Apocalypse, together with a strong story, helped one look past the catastrophic choice of color scheme (and I admit having completed it countless times on different difficulty settings). The strategic side of Invisible Inc pales in comparison and there is thus little to make up for its lack of style and storyline. Today, I would pick up something like Frozen Synapse over Invisible Inc any day. It is too bad since I really, really wanted to like this one.
SummaryInvisible, Inc. is a mercenary espionage agency operating in the latter years of the 21st century. Infiltrate procedurally generated corporate facilities in tense, turn-based missions where every move could be your last. Find profit in chaos as you guide your team around the world in search of lucrative contracts.
