Every different aspect of this game just comes together perfectly to create this arcade masterpiece that is unlike any new game on the market and brings to mind all the great games of the past, thrusting it forward onto a new platform and paving the way to show all new gamers what older games used to be like.

My Night Job is an entertaining homage to older video games and the horror genre, but its repetitive nature and lack of replay value hold it back.

With its charming 2D graphics and unique premise, My Night Job truly is a game full of character. Unfortunately though, character is not enough to make the game fun or sufficiently engaging to play in the long term.

Although it means well, and has bags of character, My Night Job just doesn't have the depth to keep the player hooked and its gameplay becomes repetitive very quickly.

If you even know what Phantasm is go ahead and buy this game. My Night Job is a love letter to 80's horror with subtle nods (such as John Carpenter's The Thing and so many others) that even the biggest horror fan might miss a few. Basically, you are in a big mansion and tasked with saving 100 people while trying to prevent a variety of monsters from destroying the mansion. It is so much fun for someone who grew up crunching quarters into arcade games like The Simpsons and X-Men back in the day. The game is simple to play, but has quite a lot of depth. And it is challenging. Not Dark Souls challenging, but no one is going to run through this game the first time they play it. For a game that is under $10 you can't go wrong. I've probably put 5 hours in so far and I plan to put in at least another 5-10 hours to get as many achievements as I can. My complaints are minimal. Trying to balance killing the bad guys without them destroying the mansion while reaching all the necessary places can be frustrating at times, but that is also what makes the game fun. It somewhat reminds me of Metroid, but not in the sense of gaining powerups to access other areas, more on just how it plays. The object of the game, is to rescue as many of the survivors as quick as you can before time runs out.

Which makes for a pretty fun and frantic arcade-style game. Personally, I'd recommend you give it a whirl, try the demo and see if you like it. Just don't expect a ton of content in the game, but what you get is entertaining and fun to play!
