No Straight Roads is a mischievous celebration of creativity that is rarely seen these days. Full of breathtaking energy and fabulous personality, it travels back into time when games were wild, bold, and ingenious, and revives inventive madness to the next level. No Straight Roads feels like a fresh new song that crops up in a radio’s playlist that’s usually full of commercial crud. It may be a one-hit-wonder but the game fully deserves its platinum disc and five-star review. To quote Bunk Bed Junction’s catchphrase, bunka, junka, shakalaka!

No Straight Roads is an absolutely stunning game, featuring tremendous art direction, rock solid storytelling, phenomenal visual style and an incredible soundtrack.

A colourful sonic wave of imagination and joy with possibly the best soundtrack of any videogame this year, No Straight Roads is sure to pluck your strings in the best possible way. [Issue#180, p.70]

Impeccable in its soundtrack, offering some inspired boss fights and really enjoyable to play, No Straight Roads is therefore convincing in its core proposition, except for a few readability concerns during more heavy clashes visually and soundly.

Not bad, especially as far as the story is concerned. A good concept, but it isn't enough on its own and No Straight Roads falters a bit in its execution. Dumb AI is the main culprit, but the fact that the actions on screen aren't always synchronized well with your input certainly doesn't help matters.

While I appreciated the stylish, neon-soaked city and the fantastic soundtrack, No Straight Roads switches between brawler, platformer, and rhythm concepts, but fails to deliver a memorable experience overall.

The idea of a literal battle of the bands is a good one, and I was always keen to see what the next encounter would look like. But the lack of substance to the actual fights was invariably disappointing. Despite some impressive sights and sounds, in the end No Straight Roads has too many potholes to make its musical journey worth recommending.

As a starting point it is perfect. This game has lots of humor, interesting boss fights and very good story. But the best parts of the game are soundtrack and art style. Game’s music is simply one of the best that I heard in video games and artstyle is unique and beautiful. Metronomik surely done a great job. Expand

The game is really unique in both its game play and music. The couch coop is so much fun! I listen to the music while I work!

No Straight Roads is a 5 hour long beat em up game that can be played either solor or local coop where you play as Zuke and Mayday who set out to bring rock back to vinyl city
and to do this you have to take on NSRs top EDM musicians and gather new fans and a following.
There are 5 main artists here, all with their own unique feel to them which is no straight road’s best accomplishment.. its world building, its character building, its story… this is such a fun world to exist in.. I couldn’t wait to take down the next boss in this game after beating one… and in between these boss battles is a little hub world full of collectables you can use to boost your weapons or upgrade the town a bit to gather new fans.. which in turn helps you unlock game boosts and abilities in your skill tree, making it that much more important to do your best in these boss battles… as primarily this is a score chasing game, unfortunately though the gameplay isn’t nearly as great as the rest of the game and its presentation is…
on your way to each boss is a series of security levels, here youll take on robots that attack to the beat of the song, but it really is just an unengaging button mashing fest from each floor until you eventually get to the boss, and this is no straight roads biggest flaw, the gameplay, the combat, the platofmring.. it’s all a dud.. youre bashing square, occasionally shooting enemies in the distance and collecting power cells to upgrade the hubworld which is these sections saving grace… I enjoy the collecting more than I do every other aspect outside of the boss battles, and even the platforming is annoying thanks to a lack of any camera control… thankfully though these lackluster levels are worth getting to for the grand finale, the boss battles…
As a score chasing game, its all about score.. so this isn’t really a game that sets out to give you a challenging boss to beat, but rather beat this boss in the fastest time taking the least amount of damage as possible, a even if you fail youre given the option to continue from that spot but forfitting any chance of a great score, which means lower amount of fans earned by the end.. but I feel this sortve defeates the purpose.. the only point of getting a good score is to get more fans so that you can be more powerful, but whats the point of being powerful if you have infinite continues to get through the games story…
really making all of the skill tree and rpg systems in this game pretty pointless…
Overall though no straight roads is a plesent surprise, it’s a unique experience with a great world worth visting, and some of the best characters this generation of games has to offer,
    I give no straight roads
    a 7.5/10

Most of them are on them visual side, though thank god they're temporary and can just go away with a simple restart of the level. And while its a minor number as far as I've found there still distracting though and the bugs that DO disrupt the game-play are extremely rare (least as fair as I've seen), but it isnt unplayable levels of bad and kill the game. Also wish it was longer.

Hope the team pitches up the bugs cause this was a pretty good game over all, the gameplay while simple is pretty good.

The soundtrack is the best I've heard this year and worth it alone.

And the characters and writing is are pretty great and colorful, booming with personality.

And it would be a shame for the bugs to ruin it as minor as they are. Not the best game of all time but better then a few other games this year.
