Yes, RCR is back, as big and gloriously cheesy-bad as ever. Everything’s been tweaked, honed and maximised. There’s more chiptunes, better this, better that, all available via PSN for under 20 bucks. Look, it’s just better, right? [January 2015, p69]

It’s a nostalgic trip, one that’s backed by some genuinely solid design.

Overall I really enjoyed my time with Retro City Rampage DX is this is the best way to play the game, with slight improvements to the controls and game difficulty.

GTA2 was one of my personal favs growing up and this is pretty much a spitting image of it, the sound effects were annoying though and it did get progressively harder as the game went on. Aside from that the absurd script and mass violence will keep you playing. This is the perfect kind of game, low res graphics without it being hard to focus on. The character customization was surprising and no glitches that I could find. IMO one of the better downloadable playstation games. Expand

Basically "re-balancing" here means "make it easier" but it is so much better with additional checkpoints and less difficulty. I played the original but got stuck and frustrated like most people who played the game. The DX version is a lot more enjoyable and allows you to just enjoy the cheesy 80's references and have fun plowing down some pedestrians. There is supposedly new content but I didn't notice anything but I didn't go back and compare. It is a tough sell on something that maybe should have been a patch after release but for $8 as something that runs well on my Playstation TV along with a PS4 version that is cross save it is worth it to me. Lovely nods to cult classic from yesteryear, crazy combo system and trophies to boot. Simple graphics, of course, it's what it's suppose to be (clue is in the title!) it's a retro feel brought into the current generation of console. Where it could have been a touch better? Variance, in vehicle mostly, rather than things feeling like sped-up or slowed-down versions of the same vehicle perhaps a more intuitive set of variables between vehicles? It's a small gripe but considering driving is such a big part of the game, does lose a few points there.

Either way - 100% should be in your collection (be it physical or digital) and 100% worth playing through.
