2017 is the year the Sonic franchise stops running from itself. Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces celebrate different eras, but they both take the same shameless “all-in” approach. Sonic Forces is a confident game, serving up a story and stages that go for broke while dodging the pitfalls of the past. As long as you’re not a hardline 3D Sonic hater, this earnest, entertaining adventure is worth a spin.

Sonic Forces mashes together everything from Sonic’s history, from 2D/3D mechanics to over-the-top action spectacle pieces. The new customizable hero feature breathes fresh life into the franchise, but the 3D gameplay it uses overpowers the game’s attempt to combine what has made the different eras of Sonic work.

Sonic Forces improves on the 3D gameplay but ruins Classic Sonic. This game will be met with torches and pitchforks by the fans, but their kids will have fun with the custom created character and the rest of the game.

Unfortunately, all of its mechanics are shallow and mixed up... If you love the franchise, go back to playing Sonic Mania.

Sonic returns with an adventure full of good intentions, but poorly executed. The control and level design are the main issues to tackle, but if you're a hardcore fan Sonic, you'll probably enjoy the game.

Sonic Forces is yet another stumble in a series that looked like it had regained balance after Sonic Mania's launch. A game for hardcore fans, although won't be so appealing to the rest of potential buyers.

Whoever this shoddily made platformer is meant to please it won’t be those that like Sonic Mania, or any of the better 3D Sonic games.

the game has three types of gameplay the best for me was the custom character, has several alternative paths and many items to customize
The game has extra acts and you can also play with Shadow the hedgehog

So many options and accessories for you own character, unlocked by getting higher ranks. I also like the Wispons a lot, they put an interesting twist on the gameplay increasing the replay value, as different wispons have different paths made for them. In short, I LOVED the custom character.

I also enjoyed the story as it's dark and keeps you interested in the game, but at the same time doesn't take itself too seriously as it is a sonic game.

The Modern sonic stages were also really fun with the boost gameplay, and the boss stages were a delight to play. I don't particularly enjoy the fully 2D Classic level but they weren't bad.

Final Score: 9 out of 10, A fun new exciting adventure :)

One thing is it's a bit short, which I know Sonic Generations was short, but this one seemed shorter, even with 3 character stages (well 4 actually). Another thing is that the custom hero and modern Sonic stages were about 60% quick time events, and the bosses were incredibly easy (except the very last boss). It wasn't Sonic Generations 2 with a different name, but I feel like it would've been better off that way. However, the story was fantastic and dark, some of the music was great, the graphics were pretty great, and the classic Sonic stages were alright. Overall, I feel like this game had potential of being one of the best Sonic games, but it ended up being just good, with the gameplay being ok. I really hope that Sega and Sonic Team doesn't take this as "we shouldn't make 3D Sonic anymore" and take it as "we need to make a better 3D Sonic game" or "we need Sonic Adventure 3!" Expand

This is a bad game, mediocre at best. If you wanna play it, go ahead. I'm not stopping you. If you enjoy it, SURE! It's your opinion. Anyway, 5/10, f*ck this game.
