The King of Fighters XIV is by far the best KOF to date, and also trumps those other recent big releases by a huge margin. If you are a fighting game fan in general, you owe it to yourself to own this beauty! The game play, characters and even the story line have been ramped up to perfection. I cannot recommend this one enough. Forget the other guys, THIS is the perfect fighting game for the PS4!

Though its visuals still betray the legacy of SNK’s rich and gorgeous 2D sprite work, The King of Fighters XIV revives the glory of the franchise where it counts most: gameplay and core mechanics. This will hopefully be the first step in a better future for the series, but even this unpolished first entry is worth the time for longtime fans and newcomers alike.

While these complaints are not enough to cripple the game, it’s a shame that SNK has done such a tremendous job with most of the things that matter, only to stumble on certain design issues. Minor missteps aside, It’s pretty brilliant, and it’s safe to say that the series has made the leap to 3D surprisingly well despite still needing some polish, and maybe a bit of a facelift as well.

King of Fighters XIV falls somewhere between XII and XIII. It's not exactly bare-bones and the roster is mighty, but the gaudy presentation and by-the-book story is distracting, and takes away a lot of the uniqueness of the series.

The King of Fighters is back to claim its place as one of the most beloved fighting series of all time. Sadly though, it keeps using the same formula without even trying to innovate the core mechanics of the franchise which will only bring back the veteran enthusiasts instead of appealing to new generations. Quantity is not the same as quality and having a lot of characters on the roster won't make up for issues like a bad netcode or horrible 3D graphics.

Aside from some faulty matchmaking, the package is a fighting game worth playing. It looks good enough and runs smoothly, and even when lagging, the online play is nice and clean.

While there are some concessions in place for the mere mortals among us, there aren't quite enough. [Nov 2016, p.116]

Poor:The story is nothing, graphic just like PS2 game(SNK havs to admire it), Boring script, Mai boobs shape should be improved a bit....
I still give it a 10 because I have been playing this game since 1994 and I am really appreciate SNK effort.

This game is freaking amazingly fantastic and far exceeded my expectations!

I can see this game over taking SFV. The balance, selection and depth of each character allow for years of enjoyment I can already tell in my short play time.

I made a comment that this looks like the closest a game has come to recapturing what Capcom vs SNK was since it's release years ago, and I'll be damned if it doesn't feel that way playing now. With my short time with the game this already makes me feel like what I did when I played fighting games back in the day when I was a gaming junkie.

I will go over a few cons with the game here. First of all the menu screen is really static and not expressive at all. I feel a lot more could have been done to make that more expressive but it just sits there which is a missed opportunity. Also, some of the stage graphics could be better especially the Team Fatal Fury truck sunset stage. I will say, however, on character graphics, I think thye are really detailed and fantastic looking when playing in person.

Does this game feel better than playing SVF? IMO by far YES...yes it does and more enjoyable due to the layers of depth that KOF has. I spent hours just practicing with one character just testing moves and even that was enjoyable in a roster of 50. I disagree with GS on the characters, they do have style and personality in all their moves and emojis.

The story cinematic looked cool as hell (wasn't expecting that) it honestly impressed me to the point of me having a big grin on my face the entire time rolling, it was fantastic. I am so impressed with this game right now. This is the most satisfying full retail purchase I've made since Bloodborne and others are not even close.

If you're a fighting game fan...JUST BUY THIS GAME PERIOD! This is one of the best fighters ever made. I suspect you will come to the same conclusion espcially if you enjoy the gameplay and content SFV has.

KOF14 is a rock-solid game which can be fun for casual and hardcore gamers.

    * +50 characters, plenty of game modes, galleries, tutorials, content 10
    * Plenty of movements, mechanics and combos. You have the freedom to create incredible combos, very different from the automatic-robotic combos from Mortal Kombat or Injustice. Gameplay 10
    * Controls are prefect, very responsive 10.
    * Music is ok, I would give it an 8
    * Graphics, the game looks like a PS3, but it´s not a relevant issue when you are playing. I think they sacrificed graphics to priorize content (a lot of characters).

I loved KOF98, KOF99, KOF13 and this game is very good too, one of the best fighters in the market right now, very fun to play. addictive, with plenty of content I recommend you to buy it.

I have not played a (new) fighting game since Super Smash Bros (Wii U) and I know there was Street Fighter V. But after their SSFIV fiasco, II have not played a (new) fighting game since Super Smash Bros (Wii U) and I know there was Street Fighter V. But after their SSFIV fiasco, I thought I'd put the notion on hold for SFV. I've always been a fan of Capcom and SNK since the SNES-days and I was very glad to hear KoF XIV is the works.

Visuals are what the PS3/X360 can achieve; a juxtaposition of 2.5D/3D elements. I'm not a gamer who puts most emphasis on the graphics department, it's the gameplay/controls I look for the most when it comes to brawler-type games. And KoF XIV did NOT disappoint me in that department. Control mechanics are solid and smooth frame rate.

The only thing I would like to point out is the PS4's default controller (DualShock 4) is not exactly the best comfortable controller for action/fighting games which requires precision, grip comfort, and button placement(s). You would need to get a different kind of controller (joystick or a fightpad) to reduce the steep learning curve when practicing or executing combos.
