Titan Souls is super fun, challenging, and rewarding in a way that not many games are. Also, shooting an arrow through a Yeti’s butt has never felt so great.

Acid Nerve's done a nice job crafting a game that provides a challenge without being overly frustrating, and more importantly, that's easy and enjoyable to play.

Simple, strategic combat and an assortment of unique bosses make for intense bursts of gameplay that will keep you coming back for ‘just one more go’. And another. And then one more.

Unfortunately, Titan Souls lacks of many aspects that could have made a magnificent title. The combat and gameplay mechanics show many flaws that leave success to luck and randomness in many occasions.

It's also a meaningful exploration of the frustration and release of boss battling. [June 2015, p.86]

Titan Souls earns its rightful place as one of the toughest games of all-time and while some will immediately fall for the elegant yet simple design and alluring fantasy world, others may be turned off by its unrelenting difficulty.

The lack of information about the world makes you feel like you're just roaming a random castle or tower, like those Mega Drive roguelikes where the only goal was to get to the end. The length and price just help to make this excellent idea more unattractive.

That is, if you are paying $10 or less like I did. I finished the whole game (all titans, challenges not accomplished) in 2.5 hours, almost on the dot. If it was a $30-40 game, the added difficulty challenges would just make me hate it this game for the lack of content, but I had enough fun with this game, despite my anger at the bosses and the randomly lucky shots I made on about 7 of the titans.

But for $10, I got a wonderful soundtrack, nice animations, unique game play features, cool mechanics, astounding bosses, and great extra modes after the first one. And that makes it a worthwhile experience in my book.

TL;DR: Absolutely worth $10, maybe $15-20, absolutely NOT anything above that, and if you like to test your breaking point and going beyond it, this is the game for you.

Because it depended on real life distractions to periodically pull you away from the game to keep you from having a mental breakdown. The game is hard, and the battles end quickly, usually with your death, and it's emotionally taxing to watch your character bloodily massacred every minute. It's too easy to fall into a trap of not being able to stop playing because you're so emotionally invested but you're also too upset to think straight.

You'll notice I gave it a 10 despite this. That's because the game is damn near perfect. It's only flaw is that it isn't meant to be played for long periods of time. Pace yourself. When you get stuck on a boss, stop playing and come back to it in the morning. Maybe have a timer set to 1 hour or 30 minutes. But whatever you do, DO NOT BINGE ON THE GAME. You will hate yourself and most likely break something.

    Pros:
    - Incredibly rewarding battles. I got to my feet and pounded my chest when I beat the Truth.
    - Tight, responsive controls
    - Beautiful pixel art style
    - Runs perfectly, never had a slow down or crash
    - Each of the 19 titans feel unique; each a new puzzle to solve

    Cons:
    - About a 3 hour run time, with the developers expecting that you'll want to play through again to pad length
    - A handful of the Titans feel too simple, making beating them not overly enjoyable

    Mixed:
    - A handful of the tracks in the game are memorable (mainly the haunting theme of The Elder, the chugging tracks of the burning mountain, and those accompanying the final three titans), but the rest fall flat, feeling generic and unimpressive.

For most, this will be over in a sitting or two, but for those really looking for their money's worth, a handful of new game modes unlocked on completion will provide an even deeper challenge and plenty more hours of gameplay. Overall, a compact but competent adventure that draws on two excellent games for inspiration, and manages to carve out a unique spot of its own.

With its unpopulated landscapes and large foes to defeat Titan Souls is effectively Shadow of The Colossus in 2d.

In all honesty there is a little too much time spent wandering around the environments between battles but the fights against the Titans, which are effectively the entirety of the gameplay, are fortunately entertaining. Titans can be killed by just one arrow in the right spot but just one hit from them will also result in your death, this makes for some intense battles as you search for an opening whilst trying to avoid the attacks coming your way. Some may find this challenge oversteps the mark into frustration at times but for the most part it just about stayed the right side of the line for me personally.

It’s not a classic but Titan Souls will provide a good 3-4 hours of entertainment for those looking for a good challenge.

And while the variety of monsters are quite nice, the problem is with its difficulty curve, there is none, one boss you might find very difficult, the next could be quite easy.
Graphics are meh, not much of a story, so basically you have a three hours max game to enjoy killing random monsters.
