If you’re a true crime fan, this is going to be the one for you, while also showing you the dangers of letting a true crime obsession go too far. Sometimes, I guess we all need a reminder that going to an exact replica of a place where gruesome murders happened is a terrible idea, even if it is in the name of ‘art’.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me is one of the most interesting horror games of the year, even if its stupendous premise doesn't hold up to the end. A fun and terrifying title that introduces very grateful novelties to a well-known formula.

Supermassive Games' formula is crying out for renewal, but they always manage to engage fans, who enjoy these adventures like a good horror movie night. The Devil In Me has technical issues that we can't ignore, however, it is The Dark Pictures' highest point to date.

While I found The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me much more engaging than the previous installment and with a better premise than most, it didn't do much else to distinguish itself from other installments narratively.

The Devil in Me is an enjoyable horror experience, particularly with friends, but definitely not a step forward in the series.

By tentatively introducing new concepts, The Devil In Me at least sets up an exciting cliffhanger for a second two, where we hope to see their potential fulfilled. [Issue#380, p.118]

With so much potential under their belt after their last successful release, Supermassive dropped the ball with The Devil in Me, leaving players with crappy graphics, crappier mechanics and the crappiest of characters.

Though the audio for the voice overs wasn’t that great. The same for the facial expressions at times. With that said, I enjoyed this DarkThough the audio for the voice overs wasn’t that great. The same for the facial expressions at times. With that said, I enjoyed this Dark Pictures game the most. Since the ending feels more finished, even more so than Until Dawn or the Quarry.
An actual killer is what I have been waiting for. This game delivered that. Even if what I want is more slasher and less Saw.

I finished the game and 3 people survived. But I didn't enjoy the game at all. But before that I played The Quarry and enjoyed it. The problemI finished the game and 3 people survived. But I didn't enjoy the game at all. But before that I played The Quarry and enjoyed it. The problem is that if you want to get the "best ending" the game will become boring. But once you get the "worst ending", there you will experience some exciting moments. So I couldn't finish the game at the best end, but it's still not bad. However, as in all other horror games, a man follows you and you resist him. And man doesn't care and is approaching you with calm steps. Very boring. Because we had the opportunity to attack this man at least 3 times, but the game did not offer it to us. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Another **** game from supermassive, who would've thought that rushing games doesn't deliver success. But anyways, to the points.
    Good things:
-The idea of moving walls is great, but you aren't actually in control of anything so the concept isn't played out really. Seeing that in cutscenes only doesn't really add anything to the feeling, game still feels the same as there weren't any moving walls and you were just running along the same hallways.
    Bad things:
-Character models are awful, even worse than in The Quarry, bad lipsync, neck just turns 180 degrees, terrible animations, etc.
    -Breathing mechanic, it's so cheap
-Lack of gameplay. Walking the only way there is isn't really gameplay, but that's the most you'll get. A couple random boxes you can move around to reach one place, again not really gameplay. Tried to implement the puzzles, but if they were made for 5 year olds. Up to 5 times per game you'll get a control your character while crossing something on a log or plank, 25 times you'll climb some object and you'll just pickup random items revealing you the story, to which I'll get later. Oh and the leaning mechanic, which you'll encounter like 10 times per game. Other than that just walking and doing pointless QTEs.
-QTEs. As an example, an episode where Jamie and Charlie are in a room with an animatronic in yellow suit and with head covered, when Charlie unknowingly steps on the pressure plate, he's approached by the killer with a knife and you are given 2 options: stay on the plate or step back. If you stay on the plate the killer cuts your nostril with the knife and as a result Charlie screams and steps away from the plate. And then the cutscene plays and his nostril isn't cut and stays normal for the rest of the game. Literally the same would happen if I chose the option of stepping back, they even use 1 cutscene for either choice because this choice in particular doesn't matter. Given the fact this game is so bad I haven't replayed it to check other choices, but it should be pretty obvious that they didn't put much effort into them. As another prime example is Erin's death in the dark room. I was shown the premonition of her dying in that room, so when killer showed up I chose to stab him, but of course the character stabs into the shoulder and eventually I die. Hmm, surely if I choose to take the inhaler from his hands he won't kill me.
    -Writing
-Dialogues are so cringe, like they were written by 12 year olds for 12 year olds. All while all the
    characters look adult.
-The title of the game says "The devli in me", but the only time the devil is mentioned is in the very
beginning of the game, in the intro to the whole story. Might've called it the murder house or
offbrand Saw, because devil is nowhere to be seen.
-The story. Never got to understand it fully, the game leaves so many questions unanswered, am I
really supposed to understand the whole ****show only from random pictures in the hallways and
a couple of random audio biographies or whatever they are. Is the killer Agent Munday or
Du'Met? I don't know. Game constantly points to Agent Munday, even showing FBI uniform and
badge in the basement somewhere, but the characters only talk about Du'Met. So many
    questions, yet no answers.
-Killer. Is he superhero or what? How can he just teleport from 1 character to another and survive
everything? But the most bizarre thing is in the last scene, assuming there is only one good
ending and the only difference is how many people survived. I am escaping on a boat going solid
30 kmph on water, and this prick just jumps out of water with an axe and starts his usual killing. Is
this Friday 13th ripoff? Very much looks like it. Has dead mother sitting with audio tapes replaying
some lines, invencible, wears mask, walks exactly the same way. So **** lame.
The game really goes downhill as you progress through the story. Starts off solid in the prologue, and ends up as a ****ty indie ripoff with no story integrity, no character likeability and no logical explanations to anything.

When I myself was playing the game most of the time I was like shocked by what in the actual **** just happened, the devs can't be serious, this is so bad. However that's an amazing game to watch somebody play it, because then it's not you who have spent 40 euros on this **** and not you who have to play that **** Laughed my ass off watching the game on stream, was dissapointed playing it myself. Solid 0/10 game, following The Quarry steps as I see.
