With fast and fluid combat, endearing characters and a grounded story that isn’t afraid to crack a few jokes, Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal represents the series at it's finest. That said, if you take issue with the sexualization of its characters, then this game is not for you.
If you think this is only a brawler game with hot chicks in sexy customs, well think again it's more than that. Yes, the girls are really cute but the main story and the stories of the characters are good too, they are not just fillers that they put out there to create a game, although the stories may not be master pieces of literature, they are good enough to keep you well entertained.
The game mechanics are easy to master for some characters but a pain for others, so playing with your fav girl may take you a while to play decently. Another thing is that I wish there were an extra level of difficulty in the game, once you have levelled up your characters to a decent level the game turns out really easy.
The music is sticky and fun to listen and every character has its own theme which is really cool.
This is my first brawler game I loved it and I had a lot of fun playing it, so I'm almost certain you will have fun or will love it too.
Beyond the cheap titillation, Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal offers plenty of solid action and drama, all wrapped up in a gorgeous visual package that makes a tempting jumping on point for anyone who has ever wanted to hop into the long-running franchise.
Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal is a nice gateway into the franchise and a very good remake of the 3DS classic but one that won't offer much for players of Estival Versus thanks to a lot of reuse.
With the forced ommisions in the Western markets, this game is in the limelight for all the wrong reasons. But if you think that the art of long lost boob bouncing, a merely solid battle system and superficial “my boobs are smaller than yours” dialogue is game of the year material, than this might be something for you.
It’s definitely new and improved framework, but Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal is mostly the same picture. Underwritten busty characters, who serve only to please those viewing them, engage in repetitive combat segments that become little more than “Dynasty Warriors with TnA.”
The game is fun, I don't understand the negativity behind this. It has all the game play of the previous games and nothing feels missing. Ignore the bitter losers who cry about the SJW boogeyman rating it a zero, they are drones and don't have the guts to go out in the world and fight for a real cause that affects the world and opt stay at home and make fake problems in their little world, as detached from reality and outraged as the SJWs they claim to hate.
If you liked Estival Versus and Shinovi Versus, this game will be your cup of tea. The combat is extremely similar, the story is more cohesive than the more recent games as well. The re mixing of the combat to the newer style as opposed to the 2D brawling of the first game is a nice touch to making a re mastering, as opposed to just porting the game, it gives you a reason to pick this up, even if you own the original. Also, the special editions are extremely generous with the goodies for a cheap price! If you're as big of a Senran fan as I am, this isn't one to miss!
I have mixed feelings about this game, basically it brings to PS4 two missing entries of the series, one being completely redone from 2D to 3D and using the same engine that the last PS4 entries of the franchise, that is really great and much appreciated.
The issue is that it comes some years after the awesome Estival Versus and it has fewer scenarios, smaller ones, half of our beloved shinobis and some mechanics are not present (e.g. creative finishers).
On the positive side the 3D combat brawler feels really good (60 fps) and gives us a lot of background about the waifus and their motivation. It also has a ton of missions (more than 90) with a lot of art to unlock and costumes to purchase in game with the game currency.
The voice acting and the Shinobi designs are as good as always, the only thing that really bothers me was the camera on small scenarios, it collides against the walls making you lose the combat flow. Also I think there are too many Hibari missions on the Hanzo arc and she is not a very funny playable character due her moveset.
I personally did not miss the intimacy mode absurdly censored by the new puritan Sony but I can understand the rage about it.
To conclude, this game is the best possible entry point to Senran Kagura on PS4 with an easy plat too, but if you plan only to play 1 Senran Kagura game, then skip this one and buy directly the Estival Versus.
I personally don't care one way or another about the mode that was removed; however I do care about paying more for less content. I don't care what that content is, It is not a definitive edition if you take stuff out ****. A definitive edition should have more content, not less. Not to mention I am against any form of censorship, period. If you a fan of the series, and actually want to buy the game, get it on PC, or jump in a bout, but don't inferior PS4 garbage.
Please go the **** and search for sony censorship petition. Sign the petition and donate if you can! Sony needs to remain the best place for JRPGS! We are grown adults and can make our own decisions. Something is wrong when Nintendo is more lax on censorship!
SummaryOriginally released under the name SENRAN KAGURA Burst in Europe and serving as a "director's cut"-style take on the inaugural entry in this now storied series, SENRAN KAGURA Burst Re:Newal brings the prior release's classic 2.5D action to modern hardware with a full 3D remake and a fresh retelling of the story that started it all.
