Probably a really offensive game by today's standards, so if you don't get offended easily then the dialogue may make you laugh. The gameplay is fantastic and at times extremely punishing, and truly a unique game overall.
Ha ha haaa, you no mess with a Lo Wang! Katana slicing fun at it's best. Fast-paced FPS bucket of fun, boat riding, amazing level design and incredibly enjoyable both single-player and multiplayer. Shadow warrior belongs to the holy trinity of 3 of the best FPS made in build engine and the ultimate fun FPS experiences from the 90's - Duke Nukem 3d, Blood and Shadow Warrior. 10/10
Being I originally got this game because it came in a pack with Duke Nukem Atomic Edition, I tried this out. Funny enough the crazy gameplay and weapons you get in this game is awesome. I love it, and still play it to this day. Its fun, funny, and addicting, you will definitely be playing this game for hours.
Shadow Warrior takes the open-ended interactivity that made Duke Nukem 3D so fun and expands/improves upon it. Almost everything in Shadow Warrior is breakable and the addition of drivable vehicles, truly 3D pickups and "room-over-room" levels add to the immersive nature of the game. Unfortunately the game relies on some really racist caricatures of Japanese people and culture that is more offensive than funny. I'm not an easily offended individual and personally loathe all forms of political correctness but I don't see why the developers couldn't have used this as an opportunity to create a character that positively portrays Japanese individuals. Additionally, the graphics were already dated in 1997 (keep in mind this was the same year that the truly 3D Goldeneye64, Quake II, Hexen II, Turok and Dark Forces II: Jedi night were released) and may turn off newcomers to this title. All in all a fun romp down memory lane but not the a classic like Doom or Duke.
The game was one of the last great 2.5D games ever released before 3D took over. The gameplay is very great, the graphics were ok, the interactivity is great as expected, the guns are good to use, the character himself is a Japanese parody and is a little weak compared to the character of Blood or Duke Nukem. Overall great game
Yeah, it's an ok game. Don't let the nostalgia blind you. It gets repetitive rather fast, and the levels are not as great as those in Duke Nukem 3D. The weapons are awesome, but Lo Wang isn't as funny and he doesn't have as many lines as Duke. Still, I would recommend it to anyone interested in older FPSs. It is still a classic from 1997, and I prefer it over any modern military shooter -with the possible exception of Battlefield, that I found really addictive. But, oh well, if old games aren't your thing, you should check out the remake. It's awesome, really.
