Space Hulk is a pretty good adaptation of a great board game. I really liked the game mechanics, so I also enjoyed the single player campaign, even though it was quite short. [Sept 2013]
I am just making up for the 0/10 voters. It's as if people have no idea what a 0/10 game really looks like. Alternatively you're lashing out because this is not the Space Hulk you wanted. Some of you wanted Space Marine or EA's earlier SH installments. This is a boardgame conversion, you know something that wasn't already made yet.
My real rating is 7 out of 10.
There are certainly rough edges aplenty to be picked at, but also a deep love of the source material; everything from the voice-acting to the detail on gun barrels is steeped in that grim 40K atmosphere. The look and feel of this Space Hulk delights the boy in me, who long ago abandoned Games Workshop but never quite lost faith in the Imperium of Man.
The game mechanics of the original table top game make for an odd videogame experience. But if you know the original, you will understand this take on this classic; but unfortunately, Full Control didn't really polish the game, which is full of bugs, has poor production values, and lacks content.
The moment when Space Hulk loses its charm, is two to three missions in, when you suddenly realize that you’ve already seen everything this game has to offer.
Nice strategy. Space Hulk is cool game in Warhammer 40,000 universe with sound, good gameplay, coll graphic and atmosphere! Wii U has cool games and Space Wolf one from them.
This is really faithful to the latest edition of Space Hulk. They did a great job recreating the game to the letter, and being able to see it in live action is just icing on the cake.
However, it would be nice to play as the Genestealers against AI Space Marines, and a few more options to edit the controls would really be welcome. Needing to scroll the camera with the mouse gets really frustrating at times. Aside from that, not a bad game if you can find it on the cheap. I wouldn't say it's worth the full price, even being a huge 40K and Space Hulk fan, but it's pretty great at killing a few hours. Save the full price money for picking up a copy of the actual board game.
Just like the bolter in this game it is way to broken to pay 20 or more dollors for. it gets a 7 because the personality of the space hulks are still very cool.
Even though Space Hulk is directly based off of an old boardgame, that is no excuse to turn it into a boring and unpolished video game. Being based on a board game to begin with isn't a bad thing, but you must make sure that everything else about the game is polished, yet nothing was. Graphics are outdated, voice acting is repetitive, marines take forever to move, etc...
As a huge fan of X-Com and other turned based strategy games, I had high hopes of another entry into this over-looked niche. Although not a bad looking game, the mechanics and movement of it are extremely clunky and slow. By that I mean with the marines so large and the hallways so narrow, it pretty much means place 1 marine (and you can only fit one marine per hallway) and just over watch the enemies as they stupidly run into your narrow hallway one by one. Although I love the tension and ambient dark feel of the game, first person camera view HUD, almost all of that is shot out the window based on poorly designed maps and bad AI, After killing the same umpteenth Genestealer and getting another zoom in, you'll begin to understand why all the blood brothers killed themselves out of boredom. I see the care put into this game graphically but also the laziness on the mechanics. Good premise horrible implementation.
SummaryBased on the best-selling board game and set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, Space Hulk is a 3D digital turn based strategy game that recreates the classic claustrophobic board game experience for single player and multiplayer cross-platform play between PC, Mac and on iOS.
