Broforce - Nintendo Switch Launch Trailer
Sep 14, 2018Broforce is a hilariously explosive 2D action-platformer with a memorable catch-'em-all cast of action movie caricatures. The action may be a little one-note, but when that note is as big and bold as it is here, you'll be all-too-willing to disengage your brain and engage your trigger finger. After playing through the seemingly unending series of critically-acclaimed, high-brow 2D action titles on Switch, this is the perfect way to unwind.
Sep 12, 2018My time with Broforce followed an arc of first loving the concept, then being exhausted by it before coming back around and loving the blend of nonsense bro jokes and amusing gunplay and levels. This all works best with a bros playing locally, but even if you’re playing solo (brolo?), Broforce is still a fun romp.
Sep 11, 2018Whether you take the “Bro” elements for what they are, which is to say a daft gimmick to add an extra layer to a fun, challenging, carefully crafted love letter to the 80s, is up to you, but nothing about Broforce is serious bar the difficulty and dedication to the bit. If you’re the type to roll their eyes at a bad pun while others around you snigger, you might still enjoy the shooting, but this is a full on mickey-take on the Team America generation that will be like nails on a chalkboard to some.

Every time you die or save the United States you get a different bro and also unlock a new bros.
Graphics of 8 bit is great and smooth on Nintendo Switch, the music is very well and the controls very easy and tight.
Really fun playing single player and even more fun playing with friends. There are four game modes, solo campaign, COP campaign, verses mode and arced mode.
This game is a gem!

Deaths that seem unpredictableI liked it enough to beat it on both difficulty settings and go back for some ocasional online multiplayer. Deaths that seem unpredictable and unfair early on become highly avoidable later and you get a real sense of progression, having mastered the game. The enormous set of characters is very nostalgic for anybody that watched action films in the 80’s/90’s/2000’s. I bought this game on sale for about $4 and put about 30 hours in playing it. I’d recommend it to anybody that likes a good platforming challenge.… Expand

Expand

It has competent, but never great, 2D retro graphics, a very simple shoot-and-run gameplay loop, and one gimmick: you can destroy almost everything in the world. On the other hand, it has abundant shortcomings, one above all: it's very RNG-heavy. Everything in the game, from the character you get to the outcome of fights, is heavily dependent on luck.
Boss battles are particularly offensive in that regard. After finishing the game, I honestly think that we beat more bosses because of glitches than by relying on skill or tactics. That made for some frustrating moments, because some bosses are extremely hard, except when you get the right combo of characters and glitches that allows you to cheese them. I swear that sometimes we weren't even sure how we won.
Based on those problems, Broforce would be a crappy game. All those issues, however, become secondary when you play Broforce in couch co-op. That's when all the randomness, the crazy out-of-control chained explosions, the amusing satirical mission briefings and even the glitches come together to make for a great party game. If you have a friend over, then Broforce is hysterical fun. If you have two or three, then it's even more hysterical fun. There were many moments in the game that felt like a slog, but there were also times when we literally cried out of laughing.
All in all, Broforce is a fun co-op game that will make you laugh out loud at its absurdity–but it's a pity that all the frustrations and randomness weren't designed out.… Expand
