PGA Tour 2K21 is all you could want in a golf game, the relaxing yet sometimes maddening game of golf is recreated here perfectly in digital form. This year's game with the 2K flair and added authenticity of real players and even more real courses propels the game further. If you're at all into golf, you'll be into this, and if like golf just a little bit you can now get into HB Studios's golfing mastery.

PGA Tour 2K21 is the perfect option for those who want to enjoy real golf on Nintendo Switch. Its MyPLAYER mode and its control adapted to all types of players will make you spend hours playing this sport. However, its technical section doesn't stand out on Nintendo Switch.

As someone unlikely to play most of these courses in real-life, I relish the chance to visit them in video-game form. From driving off the tee, reading the green, and everything in between, this title offers a lot in spite of itself. If you’re someone who enjoys golf sims, please don’t let some careless glitches prevent you from checking out PGA Tour 2K21 on the Nintendo Switch. With practice, even a real-life duffer like myself can rack up his share of eagles.

PGA Tour 2K21 is the best golf sim on Switch. There’s obvious room for improvement, but at its core it’s a fine game of golf. [Issue #2, p.65]

PGA Tour 2K21 plays a solid golf game with enough flexibility in its control settings to appeal to both die-hard simulation buffs and casual golf fans just looking for a quick round. Its real-life pro players are so underused they may as well not be in here and the game may not yet have the typical 2K Sports trademarks – the polished story mode, the slick TV-style presentation – but it also isn't plagued with microtransactions, and the result is a game that, refreshingly, just gets on with it.

Fun but flawed. Brilliant but bugged. Delightful yet disappointing. The list of opposing adjectives that can be used to describe PGA 2K21 is a long one. In short, it’s well worth a purchase if you can overlook the current performance issues.

I love interesting game play mechanics and this game nails it! The Analogue stick being used to hit the ball is brilliant and is complemented by a lot of depth in game play.
For a sim golf, this is the first one I've gotten since the Wii, and easily the best. I typically head more towards Mario Golf, Golf Story, Wii Sports Golf, and True Swing Golf, but this has me engaged. The lowest difficulty doesn't require a college degree to play, and there are increasing difficulties that make it have depth as your skill increases.
Notably - even w/patches I have had black textures at times, the game is NOT bug free. If you have other platforms to play it on, you'll probably be glad to get it elsewhere, unless you want to play it on the go (then Switch is the CLEAR answer).
If you like playing golf video games PGA Tour is essential. I'm super happy I got it.

Pros- The game does look good- even on the Switch. It’s not top-notch 4k, but the graphics are pretty good. There are a lot of good courses to choose from. The career mode is pretty good. It presents a pretty wide variety of tournaments and courses. There are rivalries & sponsor contracts to pursue. There’s also pretty good player customization. You can create just about any type of player & clothing, etc. You can also create your own courses. This is a bit challenging on the Switch- and I don’t know if it’s better on other machines. Cons- The number 1 con for me is that you have to have an internet connection to play. I recently tried playing on an airplane and it would not let me play the game. This is very limiting and annoying. The number 2 con is that when you hit it in the fairway rough they only allow you to use a 5 iron in terms of hitting for distance. This is not realistic at all for PGA players who could easily hit woods from the rough for much greater distances. The 3rd con is that every once in a while it will randomly cause you to shank it short- and often into the water. I’m hitting exactly like I do all of the time- but it just randomly shanks it on me. Overall though, I like the game and have fun playing it. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than say Mario Golf Super Rush. This is the first golf game I’ve played in probably 10 years and I would recommend it as long as you are aware of some of the cons- especially having to have an internet connection to play. Expand

Huge selection of official and user created courses on day one and the commentary / presentation are top notch. GFX are a big downgrade though with some sharp jaggies and blurry tree textures, plus slowdown during cinematics and flyby cameras (but thankfully NOT during the actual game play). After about 5 hours play, I've not experienced the crashes or assets not loading that others have seen - perhaps the day one patch helped? The biggest drawback really is the always online requirement for career play - if you plan to play hand held and don't have access to wifi / a phone hot spot link, that could be a deal breaker. I tend to play in places with wifi access so doesn't affect me but I would drop a couple of points if that weren't the case.

Overall great to play, but not a looker and the online requirement could be a big issue for some.

The loss ofConstant crashes, graphic issues, and bad swing mechanics. There is basically no player development through skills or equipment. The loss of the crowd during tournaments is disappointing. I feel like I just got ripped off, paid full price for a mediocre beta version of a game. Justin Thomas and the PGA should be embarrassed to be associated with this disaster. This is my first 2K product and will be my last. I gave it a 2 because it is fun when everything works well, but the problems are just too frequent. Expand

The swing mechanics take some getting used to, but overall are very good and feel natural. The graphics are decent, for Switch anyway, fps takes a dip in handheld but doesn't affect the game in a way where it should hinder your performance in-game very much. They removed crowds and reduce things like trees to improve performance, but foliage-heavy courses really take a toll and will screw with your swing timing...they need to adjust this as they did with trees and other objects. But overall they did a decent job but hopefully they can tune it up a bit with patches.

The big problem, however, is that the MyCareer mode requires an online connection. This mostly just an inconvenience for PC/console, but is a big problem for Switch if you are thinking of playing handheld away from home. Just a really terrible decision that I'm sure 2K forced upon HB Studios. Also they got rid of offline societies for some ridiculous reason. Regular societies still need an online connection but at least that makes sense. You can still play offline, one-off matches by yourself or with friends locally, but that's about it unless you get online. Unless they remove the online requirement for Career mode and/or add back in offline societies (HB ARE YOU LISTENING???), this has almost no value for offline play. A real shame. Not a good sign for the future with 2K in charge of HB Studios now. At least the microtransactions are non-invasive........for now.

I give the gameplay a solid 8. The package as a whole, however, I'd give a 7 with the online restrictions, and a flat 5 for Switch since the offline really stings for a portable machine. If they fix these things I'd boost this up to the 8 that it deserves to be.

*Final edit: For some reason I just can't get a good swing from the Pro controller. No matter how hard or how often I try. I have this for PS4 and know how to make a good swing. The joycons seem to work fine, however. My guess is they can't find a control scheme that works for both the joycons and more standard controllers like the Pro, or can't dynamically change between the two. Whatever the reason, it's not ideal, but my recommendation is to stick with only the joycons and you'll be able to find a bit of consistency.

Final final Edit: Latest update makes even the joycons unplayable. I get the same two results on the swing meter no matter what I do, neither in the center... not once in hundreds of tries. Calibration does nothing. Uninstalling and giving up on this game. Stay away. Buy on one of the other platforms.

What is wrong with you? The switch is a portable system that you take on the train, a plane, a car ride, or play in a waiting room. Why in the world does it need to be online to play a single player PGA Tour? DO NOT buy this game unless they release a patch for offline play. Now, you can play offline in a local round but that progress doesn't count for anything. Again, DO NOT buy this unless they make the tour playable offline. Waste of money. Expand
