Even though Tiger 14 has a similar setup as Tiger 13, I had more fun with the newer game because its constituent parts mesh better. For a golfer, getting everything in synch is important.
Finally a golf game you can sink your teeth into with a proper simulation mode. What they have done with draws/fades, penal roughs, and smooth putting finally makes you feel like you are in between the ropes of the PGA Tour. The Connected Tournaments add much needed life to live tourneys allowing you to play either with a group of friends or strangers. Graphics are improved, the Legends are a nice historical add-on including the ability to play the Augusta National course as it was in 1934. This version has the potential to be the best TW game ever in it's run going back to PS1 days. A must purchase for the golf fan, the simulation fan, or anyone with an interest in getting away from blowing things up and just having a nice relaxing stroll with some friends.
Better mechanics, a deep historical mode, expanded online capabilities, and multi-gender careers highlight a huge game with much to offer its fans. However, it’s difficult to view its desire to exact even more money after purchase by offering enticing course content as payable DLC that directly impacts your ability to play core modes of the game as anything but questionable.
This year's effort comprises a lot of recycled, poorly implemented and buggy content, some of which is locked behind a pay-to-bypass grind wall. You can't charge 50 quid for that. [Issue#97, p.68]
this game is a big improvment from the EA network. however there are some major flaws that are evident and if fixed will make for a much better game. In the NBA 2K games you can create and individualise your own players shot technique, but why can that not be done on the PGA tour games. I understand that this would take a lot of time but if you want your game to be the best it can be dont you think it would be necesarry? The attention to detail on the clubs was absolutley outstanding and EA are to be commended on that. however I am sure that a lot of other people who have played this and previous PGA tour games are getting sick of everyone having the same swing accept Tiger. I mean Dustin Johnsons swing for example is iconic, and is nothing like anyone else's swing on tour, yet in the game it is just the generic swing type for the year.
This game is real fun if your a golf fan. It copies the game modes of NBA 2k 12 by delving into the history of golf which is interesting information and visually appealing to experience. It falls just a tad short because it doesn't actually PLAY any differently regardless of how the clubs are named.
All the standard modes are back from the last 75 Tiger Woods games so it does feel a bit "samey" and like they are running out of ideas with what to do
Career Mode is still way too easy to become number 1 at and the Fed Ex cup ranking is a joke because realistically golfers win 2 or 3 tournaments a year but your created golfer can win tons.
Winning tournaments ti unlock gear is kinda fun but does away with making money through the season interesting at all. Since you don't buy your gear with money made from tournaments, the money is irrelevant now
Online play is cool but to not include courses that are part of the 2013 season without paying an extra fee seems like a cheap moneygrab and makes it seem like an unfinished game as my created golfer had to repeat a course or skip it all together which is frustrating,
What I really want in these Tiger Woods games is the chance to play and watch computer controlled players that are part of my tee time for each individual round. It would make the game feel less lonely offline and make you feel part of a tour of players more than just one guy goin around a course.
If my tee time is scheduled with Mickelson and Poulter, I want to have to option to play the round with them as NPC's dang it
All in all though it is fun enough and buying a Tiger Woods game once every 2 or 3 years isnt a bad idea
I made a jump from tiger woods 2009 to 2014, so yes for me it is a big improvement, but with many bugs that still aren't fixed... there are many modes to play but what kills the game are the addons, they want you first to pay the game that has 20 courses (not bad) but when you enter PGA you mis courses and pushes yo to pay the extra courses pack guess how much that costs? 40 € or dollar! then they have the historic dlc with 5 course 20 € that is above 120 € for one game... I can't remember in the old times even with links that i had to pay so much even with the add on discs at that time, those dlc things is getting a really plague in every freaking game! Sell half game and pay more than the full price to get a few extras! I getting so tired of that, so now each game that has such way of doing business will never score 7 or higher for me even if it is marvelous.
Minimal Upgrade over Tiger Woods 13. They added night golf, big deal. Threw a sepia tone over St. Andrews and called it Historical Mode. Added Simulation mode which is the same as last year's controls except you move your joystick diagonal instead of vertically. Added a a few new courses. Online play is riddled with bugs such as wrong stats, bad camera angles, no tags showing who is shooting. There is no new commentary. It's not worth 60 or 70 bucks.
