This is a punishing and often not a fair title, but it still offers enough to invite all the challenge seekers out there. Not the greatest of the genre, but still quite enjoyable - if you can take all its ruthless punishments.

Xenon Valkyrie+ is far from being the best roguelike on Switch, as it will leave players with a taste of injustice and frustration.

Xenon Valkyrie is at odds with its own design. Exploring the stages is fun, but all that fun starts to melt away when you realize just how little freedom you have to experiment with different character builds. The level up system is simply is not balanced enough to match the rest of the game’s mechanics. It’s just too frustrating to play Xenon Valkyrie. While you can probably figure out the exact way to optimize characters in order to beat bosses with ease, I can’t really see a reason you’d want to.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's a pretty bland game, when it comes to rogue lites. It is a fairly hard game to play (with the rng system and some unfair enemies), but it is quite easy to get passed the first level, so Kaden might just be a child that couldnt get passed the jump and dash section in the cuphead tutorial. The first level of the game, (w1-1 to the boss) has the most fair and bland enemies, simply walking on a platform randomly shooting or doing nothing and that one flying enemy. Most enemies here can be defeated in one shot (excluding the boss and mini-boss). I don't want to go too in depth with the game, but let's just say after about 5 runs, you'll be able to cheese yourself out of any situation, except for the main boss fights. There is also a fair amount of things to do after completing the main game, like look for the secret stages or side stages, get the true ending and try to fill up the weapons index in your ship.
