Terraformers is an engaging game that can deliver that “one more turn” feeling that strategy fans crave. The interplay between resources, cards, leaders, and terraforming efforts requires careful thinking and asks players to make difficult choices. There’s a lot of variety both when it comes to scenario objectives and the planet setup. The card flow might be too random for some players but I find the uncertainty it creates a good way to keep tension and difficulty up. After a while, there’s also a sense that leader abilities repeat a little too often. But these are minor issues with a very good strategy and resource management game. Terraformers captures and translates into gameplay the lofty ideals of Mars-focused science fiction.
Whether or not Terraformers is the game for you depends a lot on what you are looking for. This isn’t a digital garden that you can plant and watch grow. This is a brutal series of tough choices. It’s about resource allocation, long-term planning, and a decent amount of luck. I was hoping Terraformers would help transport me off this dying Earth into a science-fiction fantasy. It did not. Instead, I found a challenging strategy game that distracted me in a whole different way. It made me into someone who needed to play for just one more turn. That is decidedly familiar territory! But a space I enjoy. Terraformers won’t transport you to another world, but it will help you puzzle your way through the hours on this one.
Just dived into "Terraformers" and it's super fun! You're basically turning Mars into a second Earth, managing resources, expanding colonies, and all that with a backdrop that makes you feel like a space explorer. The game's got a strategy vibe without being too overwhelming, and every decision feels impactful. The visuals? Gorgeous.
Watching Mars change as you work your magic is super satisfying. There's a bit to learn initially, but it's worth it. The game's got tons of replay value because no two games are the same, you can customize your games, and there are virtually infinite seeds, like in Sid Meier's Civilization.
If you're into strategy games or just love the idea of developing human life on Mars, Terraformers is definitely worth checking out! It's challenging and fun. Two thumbs up!
While Terraformers has its faults like the unclear tutorials that don’t explain the mechanics of the game very well, it is overall still a very fun game. This is thanks to the fantastic presentation, the many unlockable options and difficulty options leading to a very replayable game, and the challenging yet enjoyable gameplay. I strongly recommend giving this game a go. While it has a slow start, I encourage you to push through its grueling start to find a fantastic game with a lot of depth and an emotional soundtrack.
Terraformers may not be greater than the sum of its parts, but its unique mix of mechanics and low asking price should help spark curiosity in fans of strategy games and card based roguelikes.
If you can get it for cheap, it was fun for a few hours of game play. After completing the game a few times with no real difficulty, I was bored. $13 for 5 hours? Fine value I suppose.
In my experience it was beautiful great idea ruined by its randomness, it entices you to make plans just to see them crushed every turn, no way to chose projects in an intelligent way, made me mad, everything else was good in the game.
