This title is full of new ideas, design that is coherent with its larger ideas and it offers an attempt to draw attention to real-life subjects such as social diversity, just like a true work of art. Taken in total, The Eternal Cylinder is an unforgettable experience.
The Eternal Cylinder is a gorgeous adventure game that features one of the most compelling stories I've seen in years. Its strict linearity may be frustrating for some, but that slight downside is vastly outweighed by this game's many strengths.

The Eternal Cylinder has a cool story, interesting exploration mechanics, a good unique idea in the mutations, and solid presentation. While it starts off a little slow, once it gets going it kept me engaged and pushing forward. The trebhums might be too cute for their own good but it’s nice to see how they solve puzzles via mutations while navigating their cylinder threatened planet.
ACE Team has specialized in weird worlds, but this is the first time the studio has managed to craft one that is also beautiful and immersive. Sometimes I wanted the gameplay spaces to be a little bigger, or even entirely open world. But I understand that The Eternal Cylinder needs structure and hope that the easy-to-understand mechanics and cute protagonists will allow a wide range of players to engage with the game.
For all the team’s expertise on the weird, the fact that this visual identity is far from the intended appeal should give you an idea at just how well the mechanics and overall reaction to such interlocking systems plays out. Most of which left to the player’s own imagination with how best to utilize said tools and similarly-spoken scenarios. But not for a second do ACE Team view an otherwise absence of comprehension as an automatic fail-state. Yet at the same time, managing to burrow enough of a temptation that failure in that regard will almost always be by the player’s own curious, sometimes greedy, hand. That level of confidence but more so lenience in its concept — an understanding on when and how survival mechanics can be implemented without feeling tedious or invasive — in the end is what makes The Eternal Cylinder as fascinating an adventure to decipher as it is to watch unfold with bated breath.
This chase-and-reprieve dynamic makes for a well-paced campaign which should take most players 12 hours or so to complete. The Eternal Cylinder makes for a tricky game to conveniently classify, and the mix of survival, exploration, platforming, puzzle, and action elements does sometimes collide with its clumsy and slippery controls. Adjustable difficulty settings are welcoming, but even on default mode there’s a generosity of checkpointing and saves, and rarely is an attempt punished too harshly; plus, when the permanent mutation system is later unlocked, it feels practically game-breaking. Warts and all, The Eternal Cylinder remains an accessible oddball adventure of one-of-a-kind sights.
You play as little weak creatures that collect mutations while running away from a cylinder. It's not super special gameplay wise but still entertaining, with the different mutations to collect and some special places to discover.
Don't expect some advanced evolution system though, the mutations are just different skills.
The story was mediocre but kept me going until the end.
The Eternal Cylinder
This game is weird
The Eternal Cylinder is a survival adventure game where yu play as these weird little creatures called Trebhums, and they ****.. literally.. you **** up food, you eat food, sometimes you gain mutations from eating these foods, theres other trebhums to collect, and this is the main focus, youre in this area usually with a couple secrets for you to find and trebhums to collect, you find the secret and your friends, you get some lore about this alian planet, you go through a wall of blue light and a cylinder chases oyu, you have to make it to a tower efore it catches you and now you can breath, youre safe, free to explore, find more friends, expiremnt new foods, find more lore. Rinse **** you’ve played one hour of this game you’ve played the whole game.. eventually you will have to manage hunger but that’s fine, plenty of food around.. the survival mostly comes in the form of keeping your trebhums alive asyouwill need a crtain number to progress a lot of the times.. at firt this is easy to do, but an hr in and the game starts going crazy, basically everything wants to kill you, theres electric storms and poison, this beautiful weird planet gets less and less friendly the more you unocverits secrets..
The Eternal Cylinder is an odd game.. youre either going to love the idea of collecting aliens and finding mutations while you gather info, or the management and repetiveness of this going to creep in long before credits roll, and that’s the camp I fall in.. bu I can still appreciate why others are loving this game.. theres charm to it, the world is beautiful, theres good story telling and even a narrator pulling you along.. but it just wasn’t a game that clicked with me as much as I wish it did.. but still..
I give The Eternal Cylinder
a 6.5/10
There are some real innovations at play in The Eternal Cylinder. The cylinder itself feels pretty unique. Big kudos are due to Good Shepherd Entertainment for trying something genuinely new. On the other hand, the game **** from top-to-bottom and isn't worth your time by any stretch of the imagination. This game feels like the concept came first and the execution came so far behind it that it's still not fully executed. The Eternal Cylinder feels so broken, unpolished, and fundamentally unfinished that I would only recommend it if it were the only game in existence - and even then with significant caveats.
There are a lot of interesting, weird things going on in The Eternal Cylinder. You've got to admire a developer who really wants to confuse and excite you. On the other hand, The Eternal Cylinder is the messiest mess **** I've ever played in my entire life. I would only recommend playing it as a curio. "What a weird game! It never ever clicks or gets enjoyable!" But man, is it weird.
