Despite the early confusion, The Serpent Rogue is a great pick for fans of craft-intensive games like Valheim. The focus on exploration will appeal to open-world RPG gamers, as well as those who like strong stories with dark or spooky themes. The game's crafting system is well-balanced, and the ability to learn about crafting ingredients adds an extra level of immersion that benefits the main character's role as an alchemist. The Serpent Rogue is a beautiful-looking game full of exploration and crafting that is incredibly challenging but keeps pulling you back to try again. If you like titles like survival-type games that put your skills and patience to the max, this is for you!
The Serpent Rogue focuses the whole experience on gathering resources and crafting, relegating every other feature of gameplay to the role of supporting actor. But then it repeatedly puts a spanner in its own works by inserting materials too hard to find, a limited inventory and a loot system that relies more on luck than on skill or knowledge. The result is some kind of roguelike adventure that can be great fun when everything runs smoothly and you quickly find what you need, but is extremely frustrating if you can't progress because that common ingredient is nowhere to be found. Those who prefer the alembic to the sword will surely like it, others may find it a bit dull.
If you’re into crafting and gathering, steep challenge and risky exploration, The Serpent Rogue is a concoction worth tasting.
Have plenty of resources, research everything and pay attention to the time. Try not to die while doing all these, because if you die you have to do everything from scratch. Tiresome but good.
The Serpent Rogue, like every first work, is full of edges to be smoothed but the basic concepts are interesting. The Warden's journey is full of difficulties, unfortunately often due to structural deficiencies. In any case, the Kiev-based team deserves the warmest compliments for finishing development in a dire situation.
