Rome Remastered is the perfect way to experience Total War's antiquity offering in 2021 short of a third Rome title.
Excellent throwback to memories of our younger selves, Total War: Rome Remastered reminds us how good the basics of this series were and how far it has travelled in the last seventeen years.

Total War: Rome Remastered is the perfect way to relive the old memories and conquer the ancient world once again. The hugely improved graphics, general bug fixing and the with new control schemes and interface also make it a more accessible product for newcomers as well.
A lovingly crafted refresh of a classic Total War game that manages to recapture both its triumphs and its tragedies.
Total War: Rome was the really big breakout moment for the series, and as a bona fide classic, the remaster makes sense - even if it is just for the sake of nostalgia. I don't think the strategy genre necessarily lends itself to modernisation when the thing that needs moderising the most would have taken Rome Remastered and turned it into Total War: Rome 3, but if you remember what it's like to enjoy older strategy games like Rome, the remaster is going to be quite the rush.

Total War: Rome Remastered is a blast of nostalgia for those who have fond memories of losing hours of their night as they attempt to conquer just one more enemy city. Nostalgia is also the primary selling point for the game, however, as new players would be better-suited starting with a more recent title and experienced fans will miss certain quality of life features present in modern strategy games. While Total War: Rome Remastered does an honorable job of reviving an old classic, the fresh coat of paint does little to cover up its outdated mechanics, and it's likely that only established fans looking to return to a title they loved once before will get much out the remaster as a result.
The gold standard of how to make remasters. Not just another lazy retexture, but support of multi-core processors, large amounts of RAM and tons of QoL optional features have been added. Devs fixed many AI and balance issues. Added trade agents and previously closed factions. Surprisingly, with such an impressive list of changes and new features, Ferals managed to carefully preserve the spirit of the original. And most importantly, there is the possibility of modding, thanks to which Rome and Medieval 2 are still afloat.

the gameplay would be amazing . . . if the game could stop constantly crashing and if the game stopped becoming suddenly unresponsive and I looked around on how to fix it and the main one I got was to roll back the clock on my PC destroying my internet connection WTF? Why does that fix it why can't the game just work properly so annoying so bs a remake to an ancient game that costs 30 dollars also somehow after playing this game my civ v isn't working cause this thing **** my direct X

I found it extremely frustrating playing both on the map and in battle because of some selection bug. Often times if I select something it freezes and can't unselect it anymore. Also, the game crashes every 20 min. It's so buggy is unplayable.

Summary Total War: ROME REMASTERED lets you relive the legacy that defined the award-winning strategy game series. Remastered to 4K with multiple improvements to visuals as well as refinements to gameplay, it’s time to revisit a true classic. Not everyone gets a second chance to conquer the Roman Empire.
