Turok: Dinosaur Hunter is an intriguing walk down memory lane, and Night Dive Studios have done their usual good job of optimizing it for modern hardware. That said Turok hasn’t aged very well at all, and there are some inherent flaws that keep the original from being as fun as the sequels.
Despite the fact that Turok doesn't gel with the standards of today's first-person shooters, it nonetheless serves as a great nostalgia trip with retro gameplay that is delightfully old-school.
This was the first N64 game I played with my buddy who rented it from a video store lol this feels like a perfect remake for me, but it's just as difficult as i remember!
Looks like there are a few filthy casuals down voting this masterpiece, so I guess I should step in and level the playing field. This is the Turok you remember from your N64 days. It is brutally hard, insanely difficult, and optimized for PC. What exactly were you expecting? No It's not a full high definition 'remaster' , all of the old graphics are intact. If that bothers you , play any of the dozens of other modern shooter games with fancy graphics. 10/10
It’s fast paced arcade shooter style is a ton of fun, and considering the types of leaps and bounds it brought to the FPS genre, it’s no wonder that it managed to succeed all those years ago.
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter Remastered it’s an easy recommendation for nostalgic fans so long as they curb any lofty expectations of it being just as good as it was almost twenty years ago. Give this a try as a newcomer and you’ll be surprised to find a solid dino blasting relic that hasn’t quite defied the conventions of time, but is still fun nonetheless.
I like Turok; but I like it as an N64 game where I can make excuses for its shortcomings based on its platform—in a vacuum where I can’t compare it to other, truly great shooters.
I played Turok 2 around 16 years ago when I was a little kid. A week ago I've seen both Turok and Turok 2 on sale on Steam and I bought it out of nostalgia.
Turok 1 is fun but also annoying at times. For example, there are blue portals which randomly spawn from time to time which lead you to a secret level / mini game which if you beat you get a power-up, extra health, new weapon, etc.
The mini games are fine, but the problem is that the portals don't go away after you beat all the mini games. There are around 2 mini games per level, and if you beat both of them, the portals will still keep spawning, but if you enter the portal you will get teleported to an already beaten mini game... It's not game breaking, but it's very annoying.
The other thing that was annoying was that you a maximum number of lives exist. You can have a maximum of 9 lives and 99 triangles collected. Which means that you can't collect more triangles if you have the previous mentioned number of lives and triangles. I mean... why? ... I'm an achievement **** / collector and I love to everything that I can in the game, and this game wouldn't let me collect everything. Really annoying.
Other than that, my only complaint is that the first 60% of the game is very good, while the last 40% is amazing and really fun. I mean, the first boss appears very late, at around 60% of the game and everything after the first boss is very fun and challenging, while before that it's kind of good, but not really amazing.
Also, the story is non existent which is too bad. I wish there were at least some written texts just to give some context to your actions.
All in all, it was a really good game, it was fun, the graphic's aesthetics were cool, killing cybernetic dinosaurs is hell of a fun, but the game is not worth the $8 that I paid for it.
8.5 - Not sure why the review scores are so low, but I found it very enjoyable, just upgraded things like render distance and frame rate from the original. You can't really go wrong with this game.
Turok was alright. I haven't played it in 16 years, before they remaster it, and makin something awesome, than Nintendo's 64.
It's a full controller support, and you can play it with almost any supported controllers.
The flaws was, the graphics was old-school s--t, but it was fine...
I played the game in the 90s, and what **** back then certainly is a lot worse now. This game looks dreadful, it's not a great remake **** game. It will still give you a headache just because how the game is stylized. And to top it of, the game is so challenging for how bad it is. Don't pay money for this.
