The gameplay style is a mix of action, platform, and puzzle gaming genres, and has been noted by many reviewers to have numerous similarities in overall gameplay style to The Legend of Zelda series,[3] an inspiration that director Hideki Kamiya, a self-proclaimed Zelda fan, has admitted has influenced his general game design.[4] The main story is primarily linear, directed by Amaterasu's guide Issun, though numerous side quests and optional activities allow for players to explore the game world and take the story at their own pace.[5] By completing quests, side quests and small additional activities (such as making trees bloom into life or feeding wild animals), Amaterasu earns Praise, which can then be spent to increase various statistics of the character, such as the amount of health and number of ink wells for Celestial Brush techniques.[6]
   
   Combat is staged in a ghostly virtual arena, and Amaterasu can fight enemies using a combination of weapons, fighting techniques and Brush methods to dispatch the foes.[7] At the end of combat, money (as yen) is rewarded to Amaterasu, with bonuses for completing a battle quickly and without taking damage. The money can be spent on numerous items from merchants across the land, including healing goods, better weapons, tools and key items for completing quests. The money can also be used to buy new combat techniques at dojos throughout the land.[8]
   
   Additionally, rare Demon Fangs can be earned through combat which can be traded for additional, unique items that are beneficial in gameplay but not required to complete the game.[9] Weapons inspired by the Imperial Regalia of Japan (the Reflector, the Rosaries and the Glaive) can be equipped on Amaterasu as either main or sub-weapons (one each), and used in addition to other melee attacks that the player can have Amaterasu learn through the course of the game.[10][11]… Expand

   Absolutely fantastic. Designs, musics, gameplay, atmosphere, lore, world-building... Absolutely gorgeous. Not perfect, too much repetitivityAbsolutely fantastic.    This game has been on PS2, Wii, PS3, Switch, PS4, XB1. It is basically the best Zelda clone there has ever been. I mean that as the highestThis game has been on PS2, Wii, PS3, Switch, PS4, XB1. It is basically the best Zelda clone there has ever been. I mean that as the highest compliment in that most Zelda games are fantastic, often getting Game of the Year consideration. Okami is lighter on challenge, its puzzles are easier, the combat is simple, it more the exploration and the journey where it matches the very best Zelda games. I mean I wouldn't quite put it up there with Ocarina of time, wind waker, or breath of the Wild, but it is good enough to be compared to some truly great zelda games tells you all you need to know. Also I liked the Japanese folklore the game has along with an interesting story, timeless art design, and great music, this game is great. The celestial brush gameplay and combat is different enough where it stands on its own, rather than zelda games that are generally melee weapons… Expand

   La versión remasterizada de Okami en XBox One X es impresionante, los tiempos de carga y la fluidez del framerate hacen de esta experiencia visual una continua maravilla.
   La jugabilidad con controles es un pequeño por menor si tu primer experiencia con Okami fue en Wii, pero eso no quita que sea un gran juego de aventuras. Se extraña la posibilidad de seleccionar el idioma de los subtítulos.… Expand

   Okami is a game I wish I played sooner. This game is very good. Not even comparing to other games within it's genre, like Zelda. Okami standsOkami is a game I wish I played sooner. This game is very good. Not even comparing to other games within it's genre, like Zelda. Okami stands the test of time, not only with it's graphics, but also gameplay and story. It uses a beautiful water color art style, replicating the amazing art of old Japanese paintings. It may be simple, but is effective at making you feel like you've stepped inside one of those paintings. The story follows Amaterasu Okmai, on her quest to save the land of Nippon from the evil spirit Orochi. The many characters and places feel very authentic to the culture. Which despite that, Okami still feels like a game anyone of any culture can appreciate and enjoy. The gameplay is varied and unique with it's main mechanic, the ability to use a paintbrush and use magical god abilities on your enemies and the world around you to solve puzzles. And the music is once again, very authentic to it's culture. A lot of the pieces are lovely to listen to and very moving. Okami is a game which if you have not tried, I highly recommend at least giving it a play. It's a must in any gamers collection.… Expand
