May 3, 2023We suspect that Ravenlok will see a fair amount of criticism for its lack of depth and length. Its dimensions are a little limited. But we drink a bottle that says ‘bite me’: Ravenlok is a waltz through Wonderland that you won’t regret. Embrace the lightweight combat and puzzles and follow the path and see where it leads you. The journey is well worth it.
-
May 8, 2023Ravenlok may not be particularly challenging or deep in its gameplay or narrative, but it nails the storybook atmosphere and the child-like wonder of exploring a magical world. Clearly aimed at a younger and/or less videogame-familiar audience, this game makes for a brilliant entry point into the hobby and offers a short, polished, albeit simple dive into a fairy-tale come to life.
-
May 9, 2023For young players without any action RPG experience, Ravenlok could certainly serve as an introduction to the genre. The controls are simple and the environments are beautiful. The main character and narrative are straightforward and relatable. Experienced gamers might be put off by the intentional lack of depth in combat and movement, but even for them, this short game might be worth playing just for the art and imaginative characters and world.
-
May 3, 2023In our experience playing Ravenlok, we found it to be an entertaining and fun game. Although its start is slow, which could discourage some players, its Steampunk aesthetic and Voxel modeling are very striking features. In addition, the game features well-designed boss battles, though the flow of combat is fast-paced and bland, wasting the potential of the game's awesome bosses. Overall, Ravenlok is okay, however its value lies more in its visuals and character designs than its gameplay.
-
May 3, 2023Through its picturesque presentation, Ravenlok definitely captures the reverie and spirit we’d expect from a coming-of-age fantasy. Sadly, the game’s one-note combat doesn’t offer a challenge worthy of its world, while the cliched story devalues its charming cast of misfit critters.
-
May 4, 2023Ravenlok isn't a bad game but it also doesn't do anything all that well with its repetitive and undemanding gameplay and constant backtracking. If you're looking for a game to lull you to sleep, though, then it'll definitely fit the bill.
-
May 3, 2023With more refinement, Ravenlok could’ve been an interesting twist on a beloved tale. In its current state, though, it’s just simply okay.
