In An Unmarried Woman, Paul Mazursky’s realist look at the dissolution of a marriage, Jill Clayburgh brought its effects to near-harrowing life.
Paul Mazursky's excellent screenplay presents Jill Clayburgh in a most demanding role where she is torn between conflicting forces following the surprise confession of weak-willed husband Michael Murphy that he has fallen in love with another woman.
Mazursky applies a light and graceful touch to matters of intimate agony.
Mazursky finds the politics in the wrinkles of human behavior, rather than contriving behavior to suit his politics.
It's a tenderhearted feminist picture.
A New York movie with a California soul—superficially gritty but soft in the center, in a silly est sort of way.
