This is a well crafted and often stylish film but you suspect it could have had a greater impact with more room for the individual elements to breathe.
Bragança’s ambitions exceed his reach, and Don’t Swallow My Heart fails to reconcile its various story strands, conflicting tones and genre aspirations.
With its uneven performances and purposeful touches of theatrical artifice, Alligator Girl is finally more distancing than involving.
Don’t Swallow My Heart, Alligator Girl! aims for poetry yet, like its ridiculously clumsy title, manages only an odd mix of magical realism with over-heated Lynchian touches.
