Through the use of different set ups -- such as a shootout seen only through the crack of a door, or a fight inside an elevator seen from way down the hall -- Lynch is able to add suspense to fight scenes that might otherwise seem flat.
Everly has the heaving, bloody bosoms of an exploitation flick, yet Hayek gives the character powerful dignity. She's no victim, nor an off-the-shelf "strong woman."
Surprisingly entertaining movie. When I start watching I said to myself: if this is where the movie goes, I am gonna like it. At some point, it gets out of the apartment but not of the building.
A facepalm of a film that places no value on life or limb yet still expects the audience to, this sub-par shoot-’em-up plays out like Four Rooms’ fifth part.
At the most basic level—and this is as basic as movies get—Everly delivers exactly what it promises, though as with most American films with sex and violence, the emphasis is heavily weighted toward the latter.
Yes, it’s all in good fun. And there’s a certain verve to the way Lynch handles the violence, even if he’s less of a stylist than Tarantino. But the film’s brutality... is so excessive, even if tongue-in-cheek, that it leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
Everly takes a little bit from a lot of different action films and adds up to a solid piece of entertainment. Salma Hayek fits this role well. There's nothing special or different here, but I was entertained. B
I watched this movie because it came up on one of those 'good movies you've missed'. Two things wrong with that statement one-I wouldn't have missed in my life and second it isn't good. What a terrible movie nothing really redeeming other than the beautiful Salma Hayek running around in a slip. Even that can't save this crappy movie. Its attempts at being edgy and cleaver come across heavy handed, ****, and idiotic. There's a part for no apparent reason after being ****, beat up and shot she slips on her 4 inch high heel leopard skin pumps just so she can walk around like a stripper for 5 min, idiotic. Mrs. Hayek gets shot, stabbed, punched and doesn't seem to effect her very much if at all. Forget this movie I'm sorry I wasted my time.
