Funny, sentimental, and anchored as always by Tony Shalhoub’s “defective detective,” it’s a worthy follow-up that goes beyond just being a nostalgic exercise.
Just as pure fan service, it’s a welcome return. If you liked “Monk” you’ll obviously want to watch it — and if you’ve never seen “Monk,” you should watch “Monk.” (The entire series is streaming on Peacock as well. It’s a lot of fun.)
I loved this movie. I still watch reruns to this day. Initially I didn't know where the story was going, but I absolutely loved where it ended up. I think Monk got his well deserved award. I hope they start to make new episodes again.
Even though the cast helps to nurture the sense of nostalgia in the film, it doesn't prevent the screenplay from failing to match the tone of the OG series.
If the central mystery is unsatisfying, Shalhoub remains the reason to watch. He imbues this difficult, ridiculous man with so much humanity in a performance that is both clenched and silly.
Was fun to see everyone back, I don't think after a decade away from Monk you want to come back and see him on the verge of committing suicide. Villain and mystery were very weak.
I have never created an account to write such a blunt review, but there’s a first for everything . Mr. Monk’s Last Case was a waste of time. No direction or cohesive thought in the writing of this movie. The dialogue between the characters was empty. Big fan of Monk.. but this was overwhelmingly disappointing. I can’t believe the director thought the Final Cut made sense.
Anyone who likes this film can’t think for themselves. Still love the show Monk, but this film was a total flop. No comedy, no foundation. Transitions from scene to scene made no sense.
And wardrobe for Molly could’ve been better on the windy bridge seen.. esp for hiding her pregnancy. Just saying.
This was awful to watch as a big monk fan. Whoever made this truly did not understand the characters like they should have. Nothing felt genuine or touching or intense, like in the original show. I was so let down and even insulted by so many things, like the very odd and out of place camera work that felt like it was from a completely different action oriented show, the overwhelmingly cringe dialogue, the cringe main antagonist, the villains very obvious and simple way of carrying out the murder, the jokes that fell flat so often, and much more. They also really crapped on who monk is as a person as well as stottlemeyer. The ending of the original show incredible and well done, with such care shown for the fans and for monk himself. He was happy and improving in ways we had never seen. Well you can forget about that. He is back to square one, and actually worse than ever mentally, with problems he never displayed before. It was like a slap in the face. The acting from all the new faces was also seriously embarrassing. It was literally like watching a YouTube fan movie. I can't even express how let down I and my family were by this trash.
