It is at times a terrifically uncomfortable movie to watch. But director Michel Franco's New Order, a searing and relentlessly grim indictment of class division and government corruption, scans not only as possible but entirely likely given our current world. Heavy doesn’t begin to describe it.
New Order recalls 2019’s Oscar-winning Parasite, but unlike that film’s superficial rich-people-bad/Quentin-Tarantino-good message, this one is far more grounded, both in reality and genuinely original thinking.

Audiences might conceivably be divided on the vicious gut punch of Franco's approach, but as a call for more equitable distribution of wealth and power, it's terrifyingly riveting.
If you believe cinema’s job is to ask the questions rather than offer the answers, then this will usefully challenge you. A dirty fingernail stuck right into the open wound of our unspoken social anxieties.
The relevance of Franco’s message is undeniable, but his handling of it is reckless and just muddles his themes in the pursuit of appearing intellectual.
A near-future dystopia that navigates a fractured society hours away from collapse, Michel Franco’s New Order is a relentless and blood-soaked study of social injustice, gripping to watch despite its graphic and escalating brutality. Sadly, it’s also one that only vaguely engages with the need for prosperity for all.
If nothing else, New Order demonstrates that the line that separates festival-lauded arthouse films from crass exploitation fare can be very thin indeed.
Yes, I left this movie angry, shocked and frustrated, but isn’t that maybe the point? Sometime we as moviegoers want things tied up into nice pretty bows, but this director doesn’t do that for us, and in a world right now filled with so much disparity between the haves and have-nots, this film’s horrors, as written, sadly don’t seem so far fetched.

Dystopian, extremist, ruthless, cruel, sadistic, cynical, superficial, simplistic, schematic, anarchist: critics struggled to find an appropriate label for Franco. I would propose misanthrope: rich, poor, masters, servants, privileged, exploited, powerful, weak, military are indiscriminately corrupt in humanitas even before their wallet, united by a primordial violence that the director is interested not in explaining but in showing in detail. The new order of nihilistic single thought has found another cantor.

Esto es Parasite para Whitexicans y Pretenciosa a mas no poder. La pelicula es clasista y racista, tambien exagera con las situaciones de protesta y de corrupcion. La historia esta tan mal escrita y dirigida que es un desastre y nadie entiende que esta pasando. Michel Franco muestra de manera superficial los problemas de nuestro país y shock exagerado y morboso, muy morboso... tal vez tenga muchos premios y reconocimiento pero eso no lo hace buena pelicula, si apenas esta lejos de ser una mala pelicula de por si. Pesima pelicula, director ignorante y lo unico que puedo decir bueno de esta pelicula, es que intento hacer algo diferente. De paso les digo que si quieren ver este tipo de peliculas con temas sociales y politicos vean las de Luis Estrada (especificamente La Dictadura Perfecta) combina eso con un buen humor acido y que muestran un transfondo de toda la situacion en vez de caos por ahi y por alla como la porqueria de Nuevo Orden.
