Sissy is a deranged pleasure to watch, though a strong stomach and an appreciation of genre protocols is highly recommended.
It may not be the sharpest satire, but Barlow and Senes have a heap of wicked fun wielding the blunt trauma as Sissy takes a wild stab at everything from influencer culture and wellness voodoo, to body image crises and backstabbing (literally) so-called friend circles.
Sadly, some only listen when the quiet part is said out loud — Sissy blares its concerns and horrors like neon demons in front of the brightest ring lights.
Sissy ultimately doesn’t break any new genre ground, but Barlow and Senes embrace these tropes rather than try to avoid them.
Barlow and Senes do a great job keeping things entertaining and plausible insofar as how casualties cross the path of their killers.
Sissy is a one messed-up thriller wrapped up in the most adorable, upbeat and value-affirming package.
Sissy sacrifices its themes for violence and surface-level explorations of psychological realism, making it as frustrating as it is compulsively fun.
