Even moviegoers who don't own Nintendo...will thoroughly enjoy these superheroes. And chances are, this is only the beginning of their film exploits.
Super Mario Bros. is a jumbled mess that is somewhat likeable in spite of itself. There are so many wrong turns taken by this film that even when we end up where we started, we still don't know where the heck we are. [1 June 1993]

This is the BEST Mario adaptation of all time, I can now say that this is my favourite anime.

The movie knocks your eyes out, at the same time it dulls the mind’s eye. Ultimately, it’s one more stop in the arcade, beckoning, waiting to soak up time and money.
Despite eye-catching sets and smart casting, this first feature-length film to be adapted from a video game is a bloated muddle.
There are plenty of gags, but not one laugh in the whole farrago...There’s nothing original about “Mario,” and the absence of tension or an interesting narrative makes it tedious in the extreme.

Not the best movie. Its clunky and shares only a passing resemblance to what was at that point a still very much developing series. Its limited technically and some of the quirks it introduces to fill in story are odd at best. But at least it was imaginative it took my child mind on a journey. It filled in the games back story created interesting intriguing lore and brought mario in to our world. I still remember it fondly and always will.
