One of the great, outrageously irreverent American movie comedies. [27 Sep 2005, p.C3]
Maybe, Morgan’s Creek does not have the ironic grit of Sullivan’s Travels or the suave perfection of The Lady Eve, but, as a showcase for Sturges the comic impresario, it can hardly be bettered.
Caustic and chaotic in the arch Sturges manner, it's probably his funniest and most smilingly malicious film.
Any Preston Sturges comedy explodes American ideals, and this one mocks everything from patriotism to motherhood. [14 Jun 1998, p.1F]
Sturges' no-holds-barred comic cristicism of American Forces abroad is still challenging and funny.
This Preston Sturges classic cast Hutton as a small-town girl who gets pregnant
by a soldier whose name she can't remember. No film better channels her comic energy or makes better use of her obvious yearning for acceptance. [19 Jun 2000]
Done in the satirical Sturges vein, and directed with that same touch, the story makes much of characterization and somewhat wacky comedy, plus some slapstick, with excellent photography figuring throughout.
