The movie has no comic-book hook; it’s a trash-compactor genre buffet that smashes together a dozen things you’ve seen before. But that’s the hook. Violent Night is amusing in a few spots, wearying in more than a few others, but to complain about it in the way that I’m doing is to come off as churlish. It’s a movie that feeds the beast. I was expecting a laugh and some gore but wasn’t expecting to walk away feeling this happy with it. The film some how blends a heartfelt Christmas story, a satire of Christmas stories, an action movie, a satire of action movies with a touch of Home Alone and some hefty gore.

It just felt like very well put together , it dint feel forced like most of the new movies leave you feeling. Kinda a fresh ideea on the character of Santa.

I enjoyed this film's wide strokes, which included parts of Die Hard, Home Alone, and A Christmas Horror Story. Favorites: Santa Thor, a fierce Nordic warrior. Not so favourites: The actor was miscast as both Trudy, the young girl, and Jason, the father. Though the actor appeared to be closer to nine or ten years old, she initially gave me the unpleasant sensations of a four-year-old. When the action started and she abandoned the toddler schtick, I liked her a lot more. Also, why do heist movies continue to feature massive amounts of cash? Anyway, fantastic fight scenes and fantastically cartoonish bad guys. And David Harbour is always a hit!… Expand

This was pretty fun and the action was surprisingly pretty decent. Definitely 20-30 minutes too long in the middle and takes a little too much time in set up mode.

A good title to pick out when your obstinate 5-year-old nephew would not go to bed already to give the old gang the chance to watch some solid flick, probably leaving the kid traumatized for life, but who gives a **** right?
