Awesome anime. I loved any moment of this great TV series. Story is amazing, animation looks awesome. Voice acting is good too! Season one is a masterpiece.
es una obra maestra de principio a fin, nunca se hace repetitivo ni aburrido, la historia es concisa y nunca se le pierde el hilo, dejando al final algunas interrogantes que lo hacen aun mejor
Great, unique premise for a show.
Strong points: Premise, Fights, Character interaction, Soundtrack, Mystery and Intrigue, Short (This is a plus for me)
Not so strong points: Backstory details left unexplained. Some complain about the Characters and Plot.
Revolves around main character Hei, as he tackles missions given to him by the enigmatic Syndicate which usually involve hunting down Contractors, people who have been given dangerous powers by a supernatural disaster 10 years prior to the events of the show. Follows a bit of a villain of the week format as clues to the greater mystery surrounding the main character's past are slowly revealed.
Where the characters of this show excel is in the dynamic thats created between them. There's nothing ground-breaking in terms of character archetypes but many of them are charming and the interactions can be pretty entertaining. For instance Hei's team of allies consists of Mao, suave talking cat, Huang, a gruff middle-aged man, and Yin an emotionless young girl who is able to basically astral project. They can often be seen discussing secret missions in the park or on the jungle gym. It's at once absurd and very charming but the subject matter of these discussions often deals with life or death situations.
Hei himself is a stoic, cunning, even deceitful protagonist. Those looking for a break from whiney, incompetent protagonists will find him to be very refreshing.
I found myself intrigued enough by the plot and setting to want to learn the various intricate mysteries and twists and turns.
There were a few backstory details that are simply never explained but the plot doesn't really suffer because of it and ultimately does feel resolved while still leaving some of it ambiguous.
The fight scenes in the show are another strong point. Each Contractor has a unique and deadly ability making for intense and entertaining fights.
And a pretty good soundtrack, composed by none other then Yoko Kanno backs it all up.
