This season takes risks galore and comes up a winner every time.
Sure, this latest season also stars Jon Hamm (“Mad Men”), Jennifer Jason Leigh (“Hunters”) and Joe Keery (“Stranger Things”), but this is unequivocally Temple’s season and yeah, sure, you betcha, she shines.

Season 4 was bad. But with season 5, Fargois once again one of my fav TV shows. The writers probably overdid it with all the strong female main cast, sometimes feminist tropes, which is obviously annoying to most people. But nevertheless: the humour, the plot twists, it is all there again.

My favorite season of Fargo yet and possibly one of my favorite seasons of television ever. Hamm is truly terrifying and Juno Temple is a badass.

Noah Hawley’s show has had some rocky seasons, but it finds itself this year by really going back to not just similar plot points but taking that idea of toppling dominos almost to a national level.
Even in a season that is deliberately trying not to surprise the audience but give them what they expect, it’s made at a high enough level that the familiarity feels like part of the fun.
More than anything, the fifth season of Fargo is wonderfully acted, swiftly paced, nasty fun.
Though this so-called "limited" series may be getting long in the tooth, each and every moment that Temple sinks her teeth into ensures it still has bite. While Season 5 might not be Fargo at its best, it is through performances like hers that it comes close.
It’s much easier to emulate the arch performance style of the Coens’ movies than it is to convey a sense of the character beneath the quirks, and Temple never gives a sense of who Dot is at her core, even when it turns out later in the season that there are many more shoes left to drop. Leigh too seems overdirected, all nasal consonants and power-suit scowls. Hamm strikes a more effective balance. .... Hawley is disinclined or perhaps incapable of replicating their [the Coens'] self-effacing charm.
FARGO YEAR 5 is some of the best written television ever to grace our screens. Filled to the brim with deliciously written characters and explosively violent and disturbing scenes this one just keeps getting better.

With just two episodes in, the latest season of Fargo, is among the best the series has had to offer. Juno Temple is amazing as the married-into-money "Minnesota nice" housewife with a secret past (that's revealed soon enough). There's so much to enjoy. The Christmas card photo. The slow burn (pun intended) kidnapping. The encounter with police that plays out like the best horror movie. Jon Hamm and his biblical bend on law enforcement, while one upping the FBI while lounging in an old fashioned hot tub. Oh sure, dere's the accents, dontcha know, but that's part of the charm. Welcome back Fargo. It's been too long.

They just drag each episode on and on just like they do with most new TV shows they build up to a nothing at the end of the episode and repeat it over and over

After watching it, I had a strong feeling its plot was created by an AI. And prompt was something like "Based on three first seasons of Fargo create a script for the next one. Appeal to the middle-aged liberal Americans. Add strong female characters." And the end result was a mismatch of ideas from itself and other art, which takes a viewer for a fool. As I value freedom of speech, my problem is only with the latter. And most sorrowful, that everywhere but on metacritic, fifth season has acclaim from both critics and users on a level with the third.

Even if not named per-se, Fargo has a formula, and seasons 1-2-3 were on the mark, whereas season 4 deviated for political reasons into TV with a message, instead of art for art's sake. Season 5 makes the same mistake. At the verst least, seasons 1-2-3 didn't teach any heavy-handed lessons; season 5 shoves #metoo down the viewer's throats, and also seems to be at least a partial woke-response to Yellowstone's success. Still, I finished the season, and was pleased to find that the last 20 minutes of the last episode had redeeming qualities.
Final verdict? A random viewer with no expectations might enjoy this show, but true Fargo fans can only be disappointed.
