The cast here is so well-selected, the songs so infectious, and the stakes so refreshingly recognizable that the series becomes the first must-watch comedy of the year.
Funny and sharp, with some welcome (also inescapable) inflections of "30 Rock."

Extremely funny characters, great music, amazing comedy timing, tons of representation. The references to the 90s are spot on as well. Sara Bareilles is a brilliant musician and although her character isn't meant to be the funniest, she keeps up with Paula Pell and Busy Philipps pretty well, once again proving she deserved all her 3 Emmy and 7 Grammy nominations. And unlike what the misogynists say, Tina Fey did not write for this show, she was the producer, so just wake up. Life is political, this is 2021, do not expect a show to be dumb just because the entire main cast is female. Girls5eva is hilarious, goofy and clever.

“Girls5eva” is spawned from the Fey model: accessibly absurdist, riddled with clever zingers, thick with critique. The cast makes this a fun binge.
With four fantastic leads and some sharp writing, Girls5eva should give Fey-Carlock fans the fix they’ve been looking for since Kimmy Schmidt ended.
This show is driven more by jokes than by story. And what jokes they are! “Girls5eva” is most fully itself when puncturing the pretensions of its characters and the world around them, and its sensibility grows clearer over the course of the first season. Like its characters, the series is finding its voice, and doing so with style.
It’s effortlessly entertaining and frequently funny; an easy, breezy eight-episode binge.
Girls5eva, just like its characters, does its best to give us the monster hooks we’re used to while poking at the boxes constraining said hooks, coming up with a somewhat mixed but somewhat appealing result. Less Taylor Swift’s evermore, more Taylor Swift’s Reputation.
Hilarious. The story is a bit slow in places, but the quick paced dialogs that go from 90s puns to current day popculture quibs in the blink of an eye easily make up for that. The 4 leads are very well cast and play off each other well, each putting their stamp on their very different characters.

Girls5Eva seems to hate its own characters, which makes it hard for the audience to enjoy them. But really, the problem is the jokes. Girls5Eva is at moments wordy without being clever and broad without being fun. The direction seems to be for the cast to go way over-the-top to sell the lifeless script, which doesn't work. The result is a show that is neither funny nor thoughtful. It feels like a one-off gag in a very early episode of 30 Rock that some very foolish executive demanded be stretched over an interminable length.

Girls5Eva feels as though Tina Fey banished every level-headed person in her employ and, in their place, hired your regressive, unfunny uncle. The brand of humor here seems to be "Stereotypes are funny," and exactly nothing else.

Woefully outdated politics and aggressively unfunny scripting aren't even the biggest problems facing Girls5Eva. There is simply never, ever a convincing or compelling character moment on screen. Tina Fey's signature style presently consists of rapid-fire pop culture references and pretty much nothing else. There's nothing wrong with this, but Tina Fey's writing has a tendency to wade into political and social issues with no thought or intentionality beyond a centrist shrug. Like all of her works, Girls5Eva takes an everything-including-the-kitchen-sink approach to comedy, and the results are not so much mixed as uniformly bad.
