As familiar as this all sounds, the déjà vu won’t last for viewers; the writers have too refined an approach for any of this to come across as a mere echo of previous arcs.
Pick a character--the laughs are there. Maybe this season we should give more credit to the intricate plotting. But no matter your preference, Silicon Valley is back and the world has once again been made right, at least for the moment.

I held off watching SV 4 for a while. Some of the actors IRL social network presence really annoyed me. But what matters is the show right?
The show is still one of if not the best comedies of the 21st century. There are enough truly classic one liners to cement this show as comedy gold.
Erlich Bachman is the stand out but every character does a great job. The from the frying pan into the fire narrative however has its last outing I feel, They will have to modify the sequencing in future but still a great season, especially the first half..

SEASON 4
It's been very clear for a while now that Silicon Valley has a formula. Everything that conceivably (and inconceivably) can go wrong will go wrong, until the very last episode of each season, where after it seems everything is just crashing down into a bitter end for Richard, Pied Piper, and their vision, but then just one thing finally goes right for them, gives them a glimmer of hope that they may have a bright future, and then leaves on that note until the next season with a new mission in mind.
You would think it would become predictable by this point, since as a regular viewer, you're basically trained to just pick out all of the set up happening, picking out things you just know is going to bite them later down the road, but you can never really figure out how until it does, and the payoff is always unpredictable, and uncomfortably delightful.

SEASON 4
It’s been a subculture critique of a decidedly hilarious sort. That hasn’t changed for its fourth season, which once again locates the dark, ridiculous heart of the tech industry through the saga of its clownish wannabe-moguls.
The splintering of the group enables the series to open new channels of competitiveness between the principal characters while also continuing to do what it does best: develop admirably intricate story lines about high-tech-sector politics as well as the inevitability that those who either possess or covet power will engage in petty behavior.
As Judge seeks a fresh formula for success through Richard’s own quest, Silicon Valley becomes a bit more thoughtful and a bit more ambitious itself. Time will tell if they’re too crazy for their own well-being, but the series is plenty fun to watch as it figures things out.
The challenge for Valley in its fourth season was to somehow parallel the nonstop innovation that occurs in the real-life Silicon Valley while retaining the elements that have made this comedy a success--primarily, the constant, abrasive interactions between brilliant losers Dinesh, Richard, Gilfoyle (Martin Starr), Jared (Zach Woods), and Erlich (T.J. Miller). Based on the three episodes made available for review, Silicon Valley has innovated to just the right degree.
Season 4 isn’t (yet) as laugh-out-loud funny as some previous seasons, though there are a few unexpected moments that are truly brilliant.
'Silicon Valley' is as hilarious as in the previous seasons and what makes it so addictive is the way it allows the characters to be spontaneous and how it approaches the new modern age of technology.

While Season 4 isn’t as laugh-out-loud funny as the three seasons that preceded it, it remains a self-aware, thoughtful look about the hardships of trying to keep one's company relevant in the rapidly changing technology environment, while also dealing with the difficulties of being a sole entrepreneur.

The bottom has fallen out of the writing for Season 4. Its humor is lame-- vulgarity substituting for wit. I loved Seasons 1-3. This is a huge disappointment. Viewership has fallen by 50% from previous levels, supporting my opinion. Try it if you haven't, but don't expect it to get any better as it goes on. Sad end to a great show. Update: In fairness, I need to note that episode 9 improved markedly. If the last episode similarly improves, I will be wrong to say that it doesn't get better as it goes on. Nevertheless, one has to wait a LONG time for that to happen.
