Classic. It's one of the backbone of Science fiction on tv, still enjoyable and fun to watch this days. This show (or his fanbase) was the precursor of many things... like sci-fi convention or fan fictions. It's also a classic of pop culture and a great meme and gif generator.

No matter how hard newer entries in the Star Trek have tried, nothing can ever replicate the sheer fun of Star Trek TOS. Don't go in expecting a gritty, serious sci-fi show. The 60s wackiness just adds to the experience, ranging from delightfully silly to genuinely emotional. This show has what's probably the most memorable cast of characters, which is no surprise considering how everyone has at least heard of Spock or Captain Kirk. Season 3 might have suffered a little with Roddenberry's departure, but this is still easily a 10/10 for me.

Star Trek is one of the most influential TV shows of all time and even close to it's 50th anniversary it still lives on. What is not to like about Star Trek, likable and dynamic cast, good original stories even to this day, the production quality by todays standards is cheesy at best but at the time it was revolutionary, although the original series is losing it's appeal with the young generation a new line of Star Trek movies and the upcoming Star Trek 3 is breathing new life into this dear franchise, and very possibly a new Star Trek TV series in the early planning stages for after Star Trek 3 hits theaters. Star Trek is the pioneer of modern Sci-Fi long before Star Wars was even conceived. I highly recommend picking up the restored Blu Ray edition sets.

It is not perfect, but it comes very close to it, because there are no bad episodes, there is only the perfect, good and reasonable, the topics range far beyond the science fiction, go areas and human etc, iconic characters and themes make this series addressed the mother of science fiction.

Star Trek is valuable as a historical artifact for those who are interested to learn about either Sci-Fi or the Cold War, but is incredibly boring otherwise. Future development of the genre and philosophy as it relates to anthropology makes all of Star Treks innovations obsolete (regardless of their importance). From a modern perspective, many of the things which would have been fascinating and revolutionary at the time of Star Trek's release are boring and meaningless today.
