For completists then, “The Bad Batch” is essential. For everyone else? Its first 71 minutes provide an engaging, thoughtful, expertly animated story. But it’s a story that’s still just clearing its throat.
The story and setting show a lot of promise, so if the writers can strengthen their core characters over the next few episodes, then this series could well hold its own with the best from Lucasfilm Animation. That said, if you never quite got on board with The Clone Wars or Rebels, there probably isn’t much here to win you over.
The Bad Batch is a very well thought-out and intriguing addition to the Star Wars: The Clone Wars series. I believe that later episodes could make an exciting series
It’s too early to say whether we really needed to see the immediate aftermath of the end of the Clone Wars, and whether “The Bad Batch” is the right show to tell that story, but things look promising after the first episode.
“The Bad Batch” is an animated series that seems unlikely to make the same kind of waves as the hit that gave the world Baby Yoda/Grogu, but should satisfy the hardcore fans.
A fun if not particularly distinctive "The Clone Wars" extension. Built around a small band of renegade clones, the "Rebels"-like feel doesn't break the mold, even if its characters did.
They are probably not enough to make you feel the “fourth” and celebrate Star Wars Day if you weren’t planning to, but they just about earn their space.
The series feels like it’s simply going through the motions, biding its time until the Jedi and other big names show up. Like countless clone troopers, The Bad Batch fails to distinguish itself.
A really good show but with weaknesses and things that are awesome for fans but less so for casual viewers. With the last I mean the excellent fan service. A lot of characters return from Clone Wars, Rebels, Mandalorian and others. For me as fan this was amazing as I was invested into the continuation of their stories or events from their past. Clarification The Bad Batch is set shortly after the Clone Wars but before Rebels and even more years before the Mandalorian in the time line. However for those who do not know these characters it is a lesser experience by definition. A main critique was that we get something different than expected. Many thought this will be like the A-Team in space or an action series (Don't get me wrong here there is action and it is good). We get more of character development, bonding, interactions and a new character named Omega. This is fine for me and Omega is a great and fascinating character that won me over. However like I said this was an unexpected turn and others did not like her so I say a warning is fair. The Bad Batch aka Clone Force 99 are a unit of abnormal clones which means not that they are a failure. All of them have special abilities that exceed their normal brothers and as unit they are a force to be recognized. They appeared in the final season of the Clone Wars and were awesome there. The story starts right at the end of the Clone Wars when order 66 takes place and left our heroes in now unfamiliar territory as the galaxy will change drastically. As they are on their base / home of Kamino they meet Omega and have to make hard decisions. I tried my best to avoid spoilers. It has personal stories and overall stories as the galaxy changes. The story works mostly well but some episodes feel like filler material. However the cast of characters and fan service helped a lot. It was amazing to see familiar faces again and see more of their stories. This was a true strength of the show and I often applauded here. Like I said if you do not know these characters this could be the place where you end watching the show. Lets continue with the characters. Omega takes a huge role and won me over. She is not as hardened as the others and can be the hearth or conscience of the team. The other members work well too. I liked Hunter, Wrecker, Echo, Tech and Crosshair. All of them have their moments but Crosshair and Hunter have more than the others. Crosshair’s arc is probably the best. I wont spoil the returning characters but say those were amazing and often put a huge smile on my face. While I am at it the show has also good humor (I only say Muchi;-). Of cause they added also new characters and these work fine too. I hope some return in later seasons. For me in total the characters work excellent and this is another strength. The presentation is top notch and has a good art style. To be fair there is no truly bad animated Star Wars show so this was expected. Soundtrack was also never an issue in any Star Wars medium I encountered. There are some negatives. There are some weaker episodes which I considered as filler. Omega starts a bit weaker too but became a character I don't want to miss. Her growth and development is really good. Lets continue with my favorite episodes: “Aftermath” for the strong start, story and setting up the new status quo. “Cut and Run” for the returning characters, character growth and showing even more of the new reality. “Rampage” for the story, humor and of cause Muchi. “Bounty Lost” for an amazing bounty hunter duel, story and development. “Rescue on Ryloth” for more backstories of beloved characters, character development and ideas. Finally the season final “Return to Kamino” and “Kamino Lost” for the unexpected turn of events, long awaited talks, twist and character moments. Overall this was a good first season. It had its weaknesses but the strong characters, development and fan services turned the tide. I am divided between a 7/10 and 8/10. I will go for a rounded up 8/10.
The series is good. Not to say that it is perfect, but there is something interesting about it. We used to say that the Clone Wars is such a stupid, crooked, boring, children's TV series. And when he developed, everyone began to like him. and this series needs time. Perhaps in 2 seasons we will see a fascinating and interesting series! This series closes the plot holes that appeared after Disney abandoned the Expanded Canon!
First thing to know is that this is basically just The Clone Wars Season 8, but I was expecting that long beforehand so no disappointment, but if you disliked The Clone Wars or haven't watched it this might not be your cup of tea. The plot is promising, but I can understand why some think the exposition is dry or empty. Most of the characters are fine, with one or two being pretty annoying. This improved with the second episode though, but I can't tell if this is just because characters were taken to the extreme for 1st episode introductions, or if it's just that they didn't get as much screen time in the 2nd episode. I anticipate my score will go up once the show finds its rhythm. It's enjoyable, but not the best I've seen from Filoni.
Disney you will improve you. After the bad output, this animated series has also succeeded.
Visually, Siemir likes much better than Clone Wars. In addition, it does not come across it anymore.
Basic. Boring. Banal. The Bad Batch is a weak effort all around. I'm sure fans of the Clone Wars series will like it but it lacks fun, excitement, and a reason for existing other than to continue cashing in on the star wars property. The 70 minute first episode drags so long; after 11 minutes i checked the time because i was certain it was bound to be over soon, alas, it went on and on and on. At one point it felt like it'd be a spin on TMNT in the star wars universe, but I don't have the constitution to sit through more to see if that's true. The animation is so boring and drab. It has the energy of the worst parts of the prequel movies with, somehow, an even worse script.
