After watching episodes 1-4, the biggest problem with season 3 is that we've really lost any attempt to define Ryan's character or his analytical skills. He receives intelligence, and he acts on it, but he's not really doing any clever analysis of what's going on in the way the Ryan of Red October does. He's mostly propelled by action and is responding to plot points rather than driving the plot.

    Additionally there are some strange actions that defy explanation except to move the plot forward: He leaves his injured Russian scientist asset to herd some apartment dwellers out of the apartment, when he knows he's being pursued closely by the bad guys, surprise they grab his asset and kill him while Ryan attempts to return to the apartment. It just seems out of character in the heat of the chase. We also see Ryan taking phone photos of his chief adversary from about 8 meters away, WTF? Of course he is spotted and a close chase pursues. And we just don't see Ryan outsmarting his enemies, these are pretty standard car/market/dwelling chases that we've all seen before.

    I get that the showrunners are trying to make each series' focus not necessarily Ryan, but the characters he interacts with. But season 3 has Ryan mostly isolated and reactionary, with some ham-handed plot decisions that just make the show a side-scrolling shooter.    … Expand

    Paper thin characters acting in service of a paper thin plot. The writing is definitely geared towards the lowest common denominator. Expect to get smacked in the face by every plot point while characters explain everything to you. Character motivated plot is a lost art. It is hard to make a gritty political thriller with cartoonish action - there is no tension or the feeling of the massive stakes. Nuance, fulfilling action sequences, realism, and grounded commentary are all sorely missed. As it is, I found it mindless and unentertaining. This is mediocre to poor entertainment and you could honestly pass. You could probably watch it in the background while watching another show you care about and get all the plot points.… Expand

    Amazing improvement on season 2, this may be the best of them yet. It certainly has some of the best episodes of the series in it. Krasinski kills in this role. He imbues the role with depth - very much congruent to the books. The whole cast is great. Action is also top notch. Can't wait for the next season.

    Superb writing, cinematography and cast make this the best season so far. Very well produced with some great action choreography.

    John Krasinski & Wendell Pearce. That's it. that's the review. Theyre so good in these parts, they take a good overall spy show and make it one of the best on the air rn. Highly recommend!!

    Amazing season!! I loved the dynamic between Jack and Luka as much as the one between Jack and Sulieman in season 1. John krazinski is a fantastic actor and is reason alone to watch, but he really makes this season compelling to watch. Episode 6 was the best!!

    Season 1 was great, season 2 was good, season 3 is just plain dumb. Feels like they wanted to make it more appealing to basic Americans - no foreign language or subtitles, basic plot with no intrigue, 2 dimensional characters… no way Tom Clancy was happy with this.

    This is what happens when you hire an intern that had only read the synopsis of the books and other seasons. Suspense was not suspenseful.

    To much "You are going to have to trust me."

I have no clue why it has 73 average score by critics. I guess you cannot really hurt the franchise as a critic any more. So went wrong? I mean president of Czech Rep. has a one body guard, who can just drive away with the head of the state? Are writers really think that Czechia is a somekind of banana republic that this can happen? (Btw. Pprime minister is the head of gov. there, not president!!).

    The plot about Czech president going to Moscow to beg for some secret talks with Russian president is the most ludicrous invention under the sun (Vaclav Havel just turn in his grave laughing). I mean, member of NATO and EU, would do that, really? I mean really? You cod not come up with more incomprehensive, idiotic geopolitical scenario..

    Do writers really think audience is band of idiots? You could come up with something more plausible in Belarus (knowing their president behavior and relations with Russia), or even Ukraine. But Czech Rep.?

    P.s. and the most funny is making Czech president father a Russian. Do you really have no clue about Easter Europe, Russia and Soviet union era? I mean, can you really do movie, and act in such a movie with straight face? Eh...

    Ooof. I liked seasons 1 & 2, not my all time fave but really enjoyed them. Season 3 is just schlock. It's like they filmed a first draft script. Cliches, tropes, exposition, generic bureaucrats, generic bad guys -- and crucially, most characters have no depth and no reason for their decisions. 20 scenes where a grumpy-for-no-reason superior barks "Your intel sounds like nothing more than aOoof. I liked seasons 1 & 2, not my all time fave but really enjoyed them. Season 3 is just schlock. It's like they filmed a first draft script. Cliches, tropes, exposition, generic bureaucrats, generic bad guys -- and crucially, most characters have no depth and no reason for their decisions. 20 scenes where a grumpy-for-no-reason superior barks "Your intel sounds like nothing more than a hunch, we can't act on that!" Perhaps for this reason, some of the actors come off REALLY badly. (Not to mention the main plot is just not very exciting.)
    I went back to watch the first 10 minutes of the pilot, to make sure I wasn't misremembering. I wasn't. It was soooo much better -- driven by character, and each character had specificity.
    Look, season 3 still has some good action and stuff so you could do worse, I just honestly couldn't believe how far this fell off a cliff.    … Expand

    Jack Ryan has successfully evolved its formula of spycraft and gunfights to accommodate John Krasinski’s brand of charm. In other words, it’s solidly-built, with just enough of everything that a show in this genre requires.

    If nothing else, the show is a testament to the fact that Krasinski is a bona fide action movie star, an impressive evolution from his days wooing the receptionist on The Office. Jack Ryan has been the perfect vehicle to showcase just that, but that ride might be starting to run out of gas as it nears the finish line.
