Arca’s Path combines fun and accessible gameplay with an amazingly intuitive and inventive control scheme. What could have been a debacle is instead a triumph. Arca’s Path is a small game with giant ideas, and it deserves attention and praise for the ridiculously high level at which it is executed.
You control Arca's Path with nothing but your head and thanks to the game's sublime head tracking it's possible to be very precise. Add varied level design to the mix and you'll know you're dealing with an interesting experience. However, the whole thing will be over in just three hours, which isn't all that many.
Arca’s Path is yet another title that PlayStation VR users won’t want to miss. It’s most importantly a relaxing and tranquil puzzler, but with a brand new way to play, controlling the experience with the movement of your head is an ingenious input method that proves how far the technology has come. Fun, inventive, and beautiful, Arca’s Path should be played by every VR aficionado.
I’m glad it exists simply to try things outside of the box in VR, but this is a building block, not a definer.
There’s no denying that Arca’s Path is a safe debut from DRI (or at least as safe as you can get with VR), but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth your time. This is a perfectly palatable little marble maze that straddles the line between challenge and fairness with mostly successful results. Most importantly, though, it’s that rare VR game that genuinely feels like anyone can pick up and play. For DRI, I suspect that’s mission accomplished.
The cleverly-calibrated control system is the main point of interest here, but this is also an entertaining, if somewhat staid, take on VR Super Monkey Ball.
For a while, Arca's Path promises to be a new kind of VR game, but in the end its problems are all too familiar. [Jan 2019, p.121]
