I’m very, very impressed with what KOEI Tecmo and Square Enix have managed to do with this sequel. I think it builds upon the first game in a really solid fashion, and does so while still feeling fresh and enjoyable to play. The A.I. can be really spotty, but overall that’s a fairly minor complaint for a game that honestly doesn’t have many issues to speak of. It runs well, looks and sounds great, and for Dragon Quest fans, you’ll be getting the appropriate amount of fan service here.
This is a great sequel, bigger and better than the original. It delivers more DQ Heroes enhanced with very interesting additions, keeping the essence of the franchise while embracing the musou genre.
It's great and I feel like it improves immensely on the formula of the first game, but, not having the characters from the first game playable outside of a side mission mode is very disappointing.
At the very least, I wish they were unlockable
Take the idea of turn based DQ8, put it in a modern format with action elements. Allow to fight against many enemies at the same time. But keep the idea behind everything, tell a story. Yuji Horii does it with DQH2. A perfect game, but maybe, too easy in the beginning. Fun, anyway.
Dragon Quest Heroes II is exactly what a spin-off should be. It appreciates and honors what makes a Dragon Quest game distinct from other JRPGs, while still offering something different than the main series. The gameplay is exhilarating, using over-the-top animations and simple controls to keep you engaged in every battle. The amount of content, while no Dragon Quest VII, is certainly enough to get your money’s worth.
Dragon Quest Heroes 2 is undoubtedly a step in the right direction, but it doesn’t feel like a big enough leap. There are minor gameplay improvements that result in a more unique and refined experience, but at it’s core the game is still struggling to pull itself away from the Dynasty Warriors series.
Dragon Quest Heroes II is a game that looks good in HD and runs smoothly at 60 fps, but shows that a great-looking and performing game cannot cover for a shallow adventure with repetitive sound, seemingly never-ending battles, and repetitive gameplay. There is a good game in Dragon Quest Heroes II. It is half as long, much more streamlined and features a raucous soundtrack befitting the big battles you experience. This bloated version merely deserves to get slimed.
It is a more of the same with improvements style sequel. This is a spin off of Dragon Quest that can be best described as Dynasty Warriors or Kingdom Hearts in Dragon Quest style. It is an Action Adventure with RPG elements. It plays in a different world and is not connected to the prequel. Story: Thousand years ago a war devastated the world. After it ended the people never wanted again a war ruining the live and an era of peace was archived. Suddenly events start that slowly drive the kingdoms of the world into wars. The game-play is the same as before close to Dynasty Warriors or Kingdom Hearts. You have standard attacks and special moves at your disposal. The dodge ability is pretty useful and you should get used to it and blocking attacks as soon as possible. You can of cause grind levels to overpower your enemies but it takes more effort than in other games later on. The nice feature is that during the game heroes from old Dragon Quest games join your party. I again like the variety of characters and abilities. There are a lot of different play-styles as you can always change the character you directly control from a 4 active member rooster. There are some new additions: As before you can summon monsters. When you defeat enemies there is a chance to get monster medals. With them you can summon helpers, get one time effects and as new feature transform into the monster. I enjoyed the new feature latter one as it became really useful. For the main character there is a job system. You can unlock later new jobs and different abilities with new play-styles. Tip: Get all to level 20. Maybe you discover something. What I hate is that you always start at level 1. If you don't experiment early one and find a more suited role you are falling behind in level. Again I like Akira Toriyamas drawings who is most famous for Dragonball. He is responsible for the art style and character design including the enemies. The graphics and art style is really good but they go for an less realistic more anime style. It is for you to decide. There are of cause side quests and a crafting system that works with obtained loot. Overall while I like the main games better I enjoyed the Heroes spin off and would recommend them for anyone who likes Action Adventures.
- Horrible, childish and irritating soundtrack. I had to put the volume in mute to be able to play this game.
-Bosses only attack the character you are using, ignoring the rest of the team. And your team is useless, they do practically no damage
- Some missions are extremely annoying. You will have to defend some NPCs at times. If they die you will fail the whole mission and will have to return from the beginning. The game's artifical intelligence is extremely dumb and these NPCs keep jumping in the hordes of enemies, which makes it all the more annoying. You have no command to make him back off or something like.
- The game has many characters, making most of them misused in the plot and uninteresting. Besides being useless. It would be much better if the game focused only on the two protagonists and some other character. At first the game was doing it right, focusing only on desdemona and the two main characters, but then the bunch of generic characters began to appear and I just did not care about anyone else there anymore.
- The monsters are too childish, it looks like they were made for a cartoon for 5 year olds. Ridiculous.
- Skill Tree useless and brings virtually no real change in your character.
Despite these cons, the game has its advantages, for example, the characters are well detailed and the graphics are well made. Combat is addictive and that's what motivates you to continue playing.
Glad i didn't bought this game.
Thankfully a friend of mine has a ps4 and let me play it this vacations... wow just wow...
It is terrible even compared to the first one, it has great new features but ultimately its defects make it overal worse than the first one.
-First of all the AI ****, completely, they do NOTHING, it is like they made terrible AI on purpose so you need to rely on online players.
-Enemy AI is CHEAP, they will 100% focus the character you are playing, they will never focus anyone else, FORGET ABOUT MAKING A TANK unless you want to main it, it is just as terrible as FFXII with 0 aggro mechanics.
-Some bosses are ridiculously CHEAP on purpose to force you to go into multiplayer... THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A SINGLE PLAYER GAME!, worth mentioning is the last boss of the game Fractos second form which is one of the cheapest bosses i have seen in my entire life. Most bosses have 2 shot abilities but some even have insane AoE like Fractos second form that you will ALWAYS get hit no matter what.
-Upgrading is annoying on purpose, it is even far more terrible than the first one crafting, just overall terrible and tedious grindy crafting and it is WORTHLESS, you barely see any difference in damage once you get better accessories.
-They got Sage WRONG, like what the hell?, Second classes are NOT supposed to be hybrids they are supposed to be UPGRADES of any of the paths that conform it and this is not the case if you are a Mage, where Sage is useless as a damage dealer it is a stupid DOWNGRADE, unbelievable... this guys seems like never played any DQ with a class system seriously.
-Pointless open world, just useless waste of space seriously nothing worth doing in the entire map you will just skip everything and if you want to level may aswell just go to any map but the "world map".
On top of that it has denuvo (which was cracked anyways).
Glad i didn't wasted my money on this game seriously it is not worth it not even 10% of what they are asking for it.
The end game is an insult to the player. Endgame dungeons don't reward crap, skills ****, enemies ****, appraise new items are broken, everything ****. It made me hate this game and never want anything to do with this series ever again. Your healers have one job -heal. But even when the entire team has <10% hp their AI STILL THINKS ITS A GOOD IDEA TO GROUP UP AND STAND IN ENEMY AOES AT POINT BLANK RANGE. All AI. Even the ranged bow, only attack in melee range. What a joke. I hate this game on a personal level now.
SummaryAfter a 1000 years of peace, the Seven Realms suddenly fall into conflict as if guided by a mysterious and malicious force. Now, you must lead a band of powerful heroes in a quest to defeat evil and save the war-torn world.
