EQQO is a fun puzzlegame that lets you enjoy a strong story about a boy and an egg. The game features more than 30 levels, but takes only four hours to complete. The puzzles are not difficult except a few of them. Because of this, the game never makes you think too long before proceeding through a level. Still EQQO is a game you should definitely try.
While EQQO has a few shortcomings that are quite apparent, it’s multi-layered, touching story and easy-to-understand puzzle mechanics make this journey worth a look.
If you are looking for relaxing, visually interesting game that requires a little problem solving this is the game for you. The story line unfolds as you play adding a little mystery. The ending is somewhat abrupt though and makes you question your effort to complete the game.
One of my favorite games of all times is Ico on Ps2. I think this game might be homage to that game. Even beyond the naming Eqqo (pronounced "echo"). The entire game structure and flow makes me nostalgic for Ico. I like this game. Im right near the end of it now. And it has held my attention for the 4 or 5 hours ive put into it so far. With some interesting environments and decent graphics.
There are a few things that really bug me about this game though. The camera /motion controls are incredibly frustrating at times, and sometimes bordering on making the game unplayable. Also the woman/mother's narration throughout the game... is really irritating. I think, like Ico, this game could have went completely silent. With none or barely any text story and would have been better for it. It's a boy in a mysterious empty world. Let the player wonder.
Also near the end, the puzzles start getting really repetitive.
EqqO is a short game with a lot of creativity in its design. It's worth checking out for those who want a unique puzzle experience on the Switch, so long as they are aware that there are some issues on the technical side of things that can make things more frustrating than they need to be.
While the switch version of EQQO is probably not the ideal way to experience this story, it is a cute and small game that is great for someone who is looking to play something in short bursts. Take your time getting adjusted to the controls. If you take on a chapter each night, you will more than get your money out of it. Just don’t go in and expect a full top-down Zelda dungeon experience.
A fairly uninspired puzzle game with awkward controls, the concept of Eqqo is never truly delivered. There are some emotional moments and beautiful environments, but it wasn't enough to keep me interested in the dull gameplay.
It was an interesting game with quite the pleasing graphics. Some puzzles were nice, some were just dumb. Narrative was a little annoying, but the game gave me rather a nice experience. Controls shocked me, I'm rather against using the touch screen, but there were puzzles where it made thing a lot easier (so I used touch screen...). Overall, I won't say much more about this, since it's a short puzzle game. I do recommend it if you can get it for a 1$ or less (I got it for free) that's the price I think that this game is worth. For the full price I would't even look at it, but at the sale it is a fine game!
Its slow pace and overly simple beginning were hindrances that tested my commitment to playing all the way through, but it gets better at chapter 3 out of 5, introducing more complex levels, puzzles and some narrative moments, all the while exploring a visually inspired world.
A perfectly reasonable puzzle game with a moderately interesting story is awfully hindered by a terrible camera and an artistic effect of poor visual focus. There’s a lot of strange foreshortening and the camera struggles to focus. If it’s on sale and you can struggle through the frustrating camera hiding the puzzle elements, maybe give it a go.
TL;DR: Not recommended. Boring, easy, unsatisfying pseudo puzzle-solving, yet visual novel game. Play ONLY if it is on sale, and you are tight on budget. Definitely do not play if you are tight on time budget, eg. only 1-2 hours a week
Objectively, this game is a meh. Some sort of a puzzle solving game, though the puzzles feel so, so easy I'd rather describe it as a visual novel. Composed of 5 chapters, first 3 is basically just clicking and proceeding forward without using any logic. After that, maybe out of 5 puzzle you get one that makes you sit and think for a moment or so. Art style is actually pretty cute in my opinion, fits the story and the game 'mechanics' very well. The story was interesting, although the end was very bad in my opinion, unsatisfying, felt robbed of my time, which is my biggest problem. Game is short, yet feels so long when playing, generally uninteresting, and the only thing that got me hooked -- the story -- ended bad for my taste..
Subjectively, I got the game for free when it was marked down 99%, keeping that in mind, it is great. Just because something is free, doesn't mean it is great, after all we are mortal beings with limited time, and time is precious. IF you can get it for free, or €/$ 1, max €/$ 2, and have lot of free time to spare and like visual novels, this game is worth a shot. Of course, not a bad game, but for me, definitely not worth the money it is normally priced at, and definitely not worth the time if you are short on it. If'd have only 30 minutes a day, or 1-2 hours per week, even if it was free, I suggest you not to play it, only and only if your (money) budget is tight and really like visual novels
I bought this game for 75 cents on discount, but I advise you to stay away, simply to save your time.
The game is incredibly uninspired, slow and boring. The story and scenery starts off looking cool, but ends up being a 2-3 hour slog fest accompanied by nauseating camera and controls that are better suited for a mobile game. Avoid unless you REALLY like eggs...
SummaryThe heartening tale of a mother, a blind child and an Egg - voiced and captioned in many languages.
A multi-layered story full of symbols and metaphors about hope, love, nature and everything that connects us.
