Many horror games are able to deliver shocks during play, but none does it as well as Dead Space 2. Isaac's inner struggle in the tense setting of "Sprawl" provides an unforgettable atomsphere, making Dead Space 2 one of the most terrifying and unmissable horror games this generation and the benchmark for others to follow.

The interaction of great FPS storytelling mixed with light RPG elements has become a very successful formula and created some of my favorite games: System Shock, BioShock, Mass Effect, Half-Life and now Dead Space. The plotline of DS2 is clearly setting up for another sequel, and though I just finished playing this one, I'm already looking forward to the next. Bring it on!

Take away the interface tweaks and improved mechanics behind how Isaac moves and feels, and examine the overall structure, you don't have a "good game and then a better game," you have two different games: a creepy sci-fi horror game with some damn good action versus a damn good sci-fi shooter with some creepy parts.

It's just a huge shame that it's not as terrifying as it should be. [Apr 2011, p.98]

Dead Space 2 is a more than worthy successor to the original, adding plenty of oomph to the series and a solid multiplayer experience to boot. We would have preferred more puzzles and a little less linearity, but that doesn't stop us wanting a third Isaac outing.

The game is atmospheric, intriguing, consistent, immersive and with a spicy story to go along with the sublime graphics the Visceral engine provides to make this game set the standard across the board, on how video games should be made, played and experienced. A priceless gem that will leave its mark in history as one of the best video game sequels of all time. Expand

It's a good length, too(8-10 hours). One of the things I love the most is that Isaac actually talks through most of the game this time unlike his former silent protagonist self in the original Dead Space. ciuchina82 was obviously smoking something because he gave a bad review while also rating it a 10. For action and horror fans alike, I recommend you play this. It's one of the best games I've played in a while. Expand

Though it has its own merits: Isaac can now speak (not only just scream, as in Dead Space 1), and his nightmares about Nicole are just wonderful! Also, the speed flights through the vacuum are nice, too. Needless to say, the zero-gravity and vacuum features are still there, which is cool.
Bottom line: it's a very good game (with less horror and more action, than in Dead Space 1), and I suggest you to buy it, if you love the first game.

    Scary? No. Fun? Hell yes.
Let me start by saying this is one of the most beautiful games I have ever played. I could spend a half hour just looking out the windows onto the city. But Dead Space 2 can take you from awe to terror in just a few seconds. The necromorphs are grotesquely designed, and the action is perfectly choreographed. Sure, there are plenty of jump out of the closet scares, but I would NOT call this a survival horror game, simply because you're a walking gun cabinet. Necromorphs end up falling apart after a few credits are spent on upgrades. But for the most part, watching your enemies being torn to shreds compensates for those false claims. The hardest thing for me is to identify any faults. If I had to complain about anything, it would be the multiplayer. Although it looks good on paper, I found it to be very dry and uninteresting, as if Visceral missed a few key elements in designing it. All in all, the singleplayer alone is still worth the $60 I paid.

DS2 isA very pleasant surprise, and a sequel that's actually better than the original. They fixed or improved the problems with Dead Space 1. DS2 is more action oriented, which suits me fine, but still has a lot of moments that made me jump and laugh. It was only after finishing the game on every difficulty level that I placed it on the shelf - and I'll still be going back to it in the months ahead. Stellar graphics, intense combat, thrilling cutscenes, decent story. One of the few games that's come out in the past few months that's actually worth the money. Expand

Dead Space was a near perfect gaming experience on the PC. I liked the environment, story, playable character, the truly disgusting enemyDead Space was a near perfect gaming experience on the PC. I liked the environment, story, playable character, the truly disgusting enemy types and most of all the splatter fest combat. All possible with a array of fun and lethal upgradeable weaponry. Not outright scary, but very spooky, weird, freaky and creepy full of tense brooding atmosphere. Amazing intro start and amazing outro finish with loads of dark fun in the in between. Dead Space really nailed down that sense of being, trapped, isolated and hunted on the edge of distant space beyond all hope and reason.

Dead Space 2 thinks bigger is better aka the local is a giant space station and spamming mini hordes is the way to go for bigger and better game play. More of the same fun right, but wait for it BIGGER AND BETTER ( no not really ).

If John Carpenter's The Thing and Event Horizon had a baby, it would be called Dead Space.
