  • Summary: Ori and the Blind Forest is a bit of a genremix – It’s a ‘Metroidvania‘, but with a stronger platforming focus and light RPG elements, all set within an atmospheric world.

This game may be beautiful, but it is also deadly.

An artistic masterclass on virtually every level—it begins perfectly, it ends perfectly, and it delivers a bounty of beautiful, creative platformer goodness in between. It is, perhaps, 2015's first inevitable lock for year-end top ten lists.

Gorgeous art direction, simple but touching story and layers and layers of lovely majestic sound effects, coupled with a kick-ass soundtrack, great old-school platform mechanics.

Challenging and gorgeous, Ori is a classic platforming genre modernized and done strikingly well. Use a controller and save often.

As far as Metroidvania games go, Ori's brilliant visuals, stunning soundtrack and spot-on controls are unparalleled. An amazing achievement.

Playing Ori and the Blind Forest is akin to having a piano lesson — it is fun only when you press exactly the right keys. Get off the mark for just a split second, and the entrancing melody is gone, the tempo is ruined, and all you can hear is the sound of your fingers frantically tapping the keys.

The skills and abilities were well-timed and always welcome additions. Loved the look of it and the always changing environments.

In contrast to many reviews here, I found the story rather thin, though I liked the general motifs. I'm guessing it was more the way it was presented that made it seem grander than it really was. But overall there's nothing wrong with simplicity.

Even though you'll spend 25% of the game swearing at the developers, nothing gives you this intense atmosphere and actual magical feeling in your gut as you progress.

It's unbelievable that all the animation and art was done with Unity, and it looks like millions of dollars of work was put into something that is sold for only $20. The soundtrack is also so good that it was one of the few I went out and purchased without thinking.

The only thing I wish was that the ending wasn't so unexectedly sudden and the last sequence was not very fun or rewarding either, just slightly annoying and bland.

good story and nice gameplay but the early game is a pain in the ass since you gotta explore the map and die almost instantly, the savegood story and nice gameplay but the early game is a pain in the ass since you gotta explore the map and die almost instantly, the save mechanic is nice but it's annoying that saving uses resources to fight leaving you with less options overall, must problems get solved later on but by that time there's no need to actually save because of the movement options and excess energy . Also it's not necesary to be carefull in the enviroment because of the defense buff granted by ability trees and excess life Expand
